I am despondent about this, for reals.

So Damn Yankees is my favorite musical ever. I'm not sure why, but I love it. It could be the song "Heart" or the fact that I totally crushed on the boy who played Shoeless Joe in our HS production. IDK?

But the fact is, I wish I were writing my thesis about it instead of what I am writing about. Blah.

Anyway, I could write a novel about the song "Near to You" because it is so fucking amazing, especially the 1995 revival orchestration, ugh.

It being my favorite, I've always harbored a secret longing for Zac Efron to play Shoeless Joe (from Hannibal, MO).

Now I know some of you think he needs to get away from musicals, but honestly I think he is talented enough that he can do whatever he wants and he'll always be able to break into ~*dramaz*~ when he's ready. If he loves doing musicals, he should fucking do musicals. But w/e, this is the one musical he had to be in.

At any rate, I've just heard the most disheartening news, according to playbill:

Variety reports that Craig Zadan and Neil Meron — the famed producing team behind the Oscar-winning film of Chicago, the acclaimed movie of Hairspray and the recent TV film "A Raisin in the Sun" — will produce [a new film version of Damn Yankees] for New Line Cinema.

Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel will pen the script.

The cast will be headed by film stars Jim Carrey as the Devil and Jake Gyllenhaal as Joe Boyd. The role of Lola has yet to be cast.

WHAT WERE CRAIG ZADAN AND NEIL MERON THINKING?
ZAC EFRON WAS BORN TO PLAY THIS ROLE.

Motherfuckers, ruining my life's dream casting.

I only take comfort in the fact that Jim Carrey's mere presence will cause this to flop.
