The words "misogynistic" and "homophobic" were used in a review - against the two social causes I most advocate. I will wait to rent it and turn the sound down.

I did wonder who the heck they thought their audience was. Zac's primary and secondary audiences are straight women and gay men. Who wants to see an old man hitting on young women? Not young heterosexual men - they're more likely to see and identify with Zac in Neighbors (the frat guys around here filled the theater). Maybe old, bigoted, misogynistic men, but how many of those are around and are likely to go to movies? Aren't they more likely to go to Hooters or a "gentleman's club" for entertainment?

Now, if they had done the feminist version - Betty White driving to Daytona, etc, maybe even getting some Zac action - then the feminist block would have shown up, and probably some gay men who love them some Golden Girls, and some young women ala Magic Mike.

Put it this way: patriarchal misogyny and homophobia are no longer fashionable. Straight guys don't want to be associated with it since they would like to have sex again before they die. Most gay men love women (like they love mom). Women have 0 interest in supporting it. Hollywood, a bastion of misogyny and homophobia, is out of touch with the rest of America.
