did the wardrobe department for this movie purposely give zac clothes in the movie really small and tight-ish
at times like 0.o

I think I read in one of the recent interviews with Rogen or the director that Zac was pumping himself up before each take, just to look extra buff. That would increase the rightness factor. I approve.

If he is, do you think talking about it like this helps him? If you think speculation and public dissection of his problems helps, please illuminate how... because for the life of me, I can only imagine the many ways in which it hurts him. I'm a fan and I want to help him not hurt him so I'm gonna let it be and let him address whatever he's doing when he wants to.

I am scared that's why I asked.

if you have questions or concerns you are welcome to message me on livejournal. others do that. this includes, lauren, who i have spoken to privately and have expressed the same sentiments... that, as fans, we should not spread around or tweet speculative rumors because of the many ways it could hurt zac.

This Movie...
I find it hard to understand why so many of Zac's fans are excited about this movie. I've been a fan for seven years, and what drew me to Zac was his down-to-earth personality, maturity, charm, and talent. In this movie, he plays a disgusting douche bag who does drugs, sleeps around, and is in general a rotten human being. Why is anyone excited for this movie? He's always been a ladies man for sure, but he seemed genuinely kind and sweet. That makes him seem safe and approachable. With this movie, he seems to be letting everyone who fell in love with the prince charming in HSM, The Lucky One, etc know that that version of Zac is dead.

Re: This Movie...
The short answer to this is, he's an actor. Who you are in a role doesn't necessarily mean anything to the person you are.

This seems like a pretty basic concept but let me go further and give you an example. I'm on a Sandra Bullock kick right now so I'll use her. In Crash, she played an unapologetic racist. It was probably her most assholish role and one that really broke her through in terms of giving her some critical credibility (though she deserved it long before then tbqh). Playing that didn't mean the old Sandra was dead. Didn't make her less amazing or charming. But it did give her a chance to spread her wings and look at all it got her.

I'm excited to see him play against his type and see how far he goes. What's funny about Zac is even when he's supposed to be playing a douche he's always had that warmth seeping through. It's something Zadan and Meron noted during Hairspray and it has continued even through to Jason. A lot of actors in those roles would just be 100% insufferable but not Zac, he's unique that way. But in this movie, I'm excited to see how much he pushes against it, to see if he can escape that and earn more credibility with the masses.

I'm also excited to see him work with Seth, who is fantastic, and Nick Stoller who is a great director. And I'm excited that it seems to be a well-written comedy. I'm especially excited because I think it is an opportunity for him to reach a new audience and because it seems like the studio has a lot of faith in the film doing well. This is all very good for Zac and what he wants to do in his profession.

But let me also say, Zac is good and sweet at times. He can be douchey at times. It seems strange to me to try and reduce him to just the nice and safe things. People have troubles, they are complicated and messy and Zac is no exception to that. I mean if I thought he was turning into, like, Shia or something... that might change things for me. But I still see the things that made me want to stan for him, the things you mentioned.

Hope that helps.

p.s. what a lovely user name.

Re: This Movie...
Thanks for the reply. I understand what you are saying. But I started liking Zac at a very confusing time in my life. Lots of guys picked on me in Hs. In my weird 14-year old mind, Zac seemed like the only nice guy in the world, so I put him on a pedestal for so long.

Now that I see Zac playing that type of guy that treated me so badly, its kind of hard for me to adjust. Again, I know it may not make sense to anyone else, but I hope you'll understand where I'm coming from.

I'll always be a fan though, so I wish him the best regardless.

P.S. Sorry if anyone was offended by my username, just my weird sense of humor.

Re: This Movie...
i totally get where you are coming from. and not everyone will like the movie or these characters, this type of comedy isn't everyone's cup of tea and that's okay too. but take heart that zac's still zac, despite what he's playing.

Re: This Movie...
Think of it as Zac's "bad guy" role.

In this movie, Zac is playing a douchebag, and the film actually supports the viewpoint that frat boys are douchebags. In no way does Zac's character come across as a "nice guy" in this film - he's rude, self-centered and an a-hole. If anything, the movie is confirming what we all believe about such people (although I've met some very nice gay frat boys before).

Your name is cute. I'm a fruitfly.

Re: This Movie...
I just have to say that when Sandra played the racist in Crash, people believed she really was and started to hate her. So I think if you're an actor you have to really think about your roles and not take too many mean ones. I am excited about Neighbors though because I've never seen him play a character this sociopathic. I just hope it's an occasional thing.

Also the reason I asked what I asked is because if his team is making him go the Oscars with what he's going through that's just wrong and destructive. My two cents.

PS: People talk about his problems on Twitter and no one says anything. Lauren does it all the time even though I blocked her.

Re: This Movie...
people's opinions were not affected by her role in crash. but some did start accusing her of being racist after all the shit came out about how awful and racist her asshole ex-husband is. (which, side note, is ridiculous, judge her for her actions not a self-professed master liar's actions.)

Why don't you leave my name out for once? Also the only ppl who are really dragging this are haters and ppl who are making profiles pretending to be journalist and harassing people who seen zac,...

Re: This Movie...
IMO Zac is great at playing a guy who is a douche but is so charming you can't stay mad at him so you take him back then hate yourself for taking him back. LOL

Re: This Movie...
Excellent. You hit all the points I would have made. The short answer is, fans are excited about his movie because it is starting to smell like a hit, and Zac needs more hits in order to win future projects. Everyone likes Zac. But studio suites will like him even more if he stars in movies that rake in millions.

It's also exciting to think that he will be exposed to a much broader audience. Lots of people have not seen any of his recent movies. They still picture him as the HSM guy. Neighbors should drop some jaws.
Aliciapop86 on February 28th, 2014 12:14 pm (UTC)
I think fans need to educate themselves about recovery and what it entails rather than speculate about what Zac doing is and why. Zac was invited to present at the Oscars and he accepted the opportunity. If he wasn’t interested or had other plans, he could had declined invitation.

Recovery is a lifelong process and relapse is actually part of the recovery process (which many people fail to realize). It occurs often in the first year but can be overcome - my son's father was a coke addict and he now has 20 years clean. The determining factor of success is the stick-with-it-ness. Also, one doesn't work the 12 steps overnight - the "searching and fearless moral inventory" of step 4 in which we face our demons and all the things we've done wrong is straight-up horrifying.

Recovery is spiritually based, and oftentimes resembles the progress of a new convert to Christianity. Once saved, the penitent must continuously bring his sins to sacrifice on the altar of Christ. The new believer is not "fixed" when he repents of his old ways; rather, he is veiled so when God looks upon him, he sees his son. This process of sin/repent, sin/repent makes the believer better, but also leads to humility in that one recognizes he is no better than anyone else.

I should say SHOULD lead to humility. Self-righteous Christians, who resemble their Jewish predecessors, the Pharisees of Jesus' time, believe they are better than other people. (Then again, it was these people who killed Jesus in the first place).

So, recovery in the program is a matter of "relapsing" whether that is literal relapse or symbolic relapse (when one reverts to old ways of thinking and old ways of behavior that is sick, which can preclude relapse), and then admitting it and trying again.

I can't wait to see my baby at the Oscars.

Who said he was in rehab again? He's presenting at the Oscars. I don't think he's in rehab.

I know you are trying to 'defend' against any negative speculation, but it is still speculation and I'd prefer we all just not because any speculation one way or the other can only hurt him tbh, so I'm going to freeze the threads about this.

Zac's Career
I definitely agree that its good to expand his audience. That means we'll get to see him in more movies! I just hope that they aren't all going to be like this... At the end of the day I guess it is true that the most successful actors can play just about any role. I recently heard Zac say it'd be his dream to do another musical. I'm looking forward to that.

Re: Zac's Career
Just consider Sir Anthony Hopkins for a moment. He's played some of the most genteel roles imaginable. He's also played a psychotic cannibal. Doesn't seem to have hurt his reputation or kept him from getting more work. So I say, the sooner Zac plays a cannibal, the better.

True. Shaking things up definitely helps one's career.

Re: Zac's Career
I was thinking the same thing. Sisto played Julius Caesar (he was single-handedly responsible for my obsession with ancient Rome and Julius Caesar), but he also played Billy, a psycho from Six Feet Under, and Vassago in Hideaway. Now he's playing a dad on TV in Suburbia, and before that he was a cop on Law and Order.

Variety is the spice of acting and it's faulty logic to conflate an actor with his roles.
