I'm so glad they're spreading the wealth and have shirtless Zac and Michael in this movie

I see that joke is still in there. But I doubt that they are actually showing his dick as it was in the script.

"I don't even think they made it look like a male romcom, just an unoriginal dudebro comedy, with the focus being on their friendship and the romance is just a detail to have some angst between Zac, Miles and Michael."

I suspect that the producers and director never finally made up their minds about what they were making, a romcom or a brocom. As usual in Hollywood, they panicked and tried to go for everything; in trying to appeal to everyone, they may succeed in appealing to no one.

The three guys are there for a brocom - you gotta have two or more guys for that. But three couples is too many for a romcom - you gotta focus in on one couple's relationship to really milk that. So the brocom aspects will reduce the romcom satisfaction, while the romcom aspects will cramp the brocom angles. They should have gone for one or the other.

They need to make the poster a life-size blow up of his butt, and for the premiere they should sculpt a rendition of it. These are guaranteed seat fillers and floor spillers. Watch the guys in the back row.

Happy birthday to Zac wherever he is. He looks damn good for his age.

I have to go be depressed now.

"and for the premiere they should sculpt a rendition of it."

Perhaps art should imitate life, but why try, when the real thing will be ready to hand at the premiere.

Perhaps art should imitate life

Ha-hah! I generally disagree but in this case definitely.

The real thing will be covered up and people can touch it at the risk of being escorted off the premises by security.

I think it would be hysterical to have a sculpture of Zac's butt. Then people could rub it and get three wishes!

That's my boy!
I wonder if he will sit with his mom at this movie's premiere, with the toilet-humping and long-dong scenes.

Re: That's my boy!
I never thought I'd be jealous of a toilet seat but there you go.

Wishing I was the toilet seat...

Zac's bare ass on the Today Show

on his birthday.

This morning, the Today Show presented a Sneek Peek based on the TAM red band trailer. They started off with the recent photo of Kim Kardashian's big butt, then clips from the trailer, and finally froze on the toilet humping scene. The narrative hook was that Zac used to be a sweet, innocent teen heartthrob of HSM memory, but now he's doing raunchier stuff. His fine ass was pixelated, of course.

I suppose getting a plug on the Today Show three months before the release date is something. But I have the feeling that Zac's derriere is going to be the lead topic of all interviews and promo spots. If it's true that he has been glum about his career progress, I don't think that winning first place on opening weekend because of his fine ass rather than fine performance is going to help boost his professional self-esteem. Poor guy just can't catch a break.

Re: Zac's bare ass on the Today Show
Here's the thing, Kleth, and it sucks:

In any artistic enterprise, there are those who rise to the top who don't deserve to be there, and those than remain hidden or unknown that are geniuses. It's a very sad and depressing fact. I've been reading some contemporary short stories to familiarize myself with the genre and I can truthfully say there are some shiteous but famous writers (one's initials are R.C.) out there, writers who any one of my peers could easily outdo in their average work.

I don't get to say "your shit is awful", though. Only critics who have been through "critical training school" (?!) get to be heard. In fact, if I ever meet a famous author, I will have to - as much as it turns my stomach - kiss their derriere.

The exact same principle applies to acting (it is an artistic enterprise, after all) as well as music, etc. The reason has to do with loci of power. The nearer one is to a locus of power the greater chance one has of succeeding, and yet power is negotiated in relationships. Unfortunately, Zac is a person being acted upon rather than being the one acting upon another, and this has to do with Hollywood power that resides among an elite set of individuals.

He should not feel bad about himself at all. Integrity is worth more than success.

Re: Zac's bare ass on the Today Show
I'm sure all you say here is true, but I don't see how power loci apply in the present situation. Zac wants to be recognized "for the work." Unfortunately, many people find his nether regions attractive and will boost the box office of TAM for that reason.

A great deal of his success has been based on his appearance, and I don't think he likes that. But he needs to come to terms with it. Sure, his looks helped to propel him to stardom; but only his talent can keep him there. He should simply feel grateful that he has been blessed with an attractive appearance, then work hard as hell to build something solid on that advantage.

Re: Zac's bare ass on the Today Show
His access to power constrain his opportunities. DiCaprio is up one director's ass (actually, it's probably the director who is up his, but that's beside the point) who hires him for virtually every movie. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are practically married to each other (a match made in heaven, though). Zac gets parts because there are directors who see his talent and are willing to take a risk on him.

These movies are indies or at least not blockbusters, so the marketing team boosts sales by foregrounding Zac's ass-ets. For them, Zac Efron is a brand label that connotes studly virility. That doesn't mean Zac won't get kudos for his acting. It's the job of the critic (not the marketing team) to point to talent, and Zac has gotten kudos from many of them from his recent movies. He should feel good about himself.

All these points of power focus on different aspects of Zac's career, and then there are the adoring fans - yes, we all think he's hot and want to have sex with him, but its his charismatic personality, his boyish immaturity, his vulnerability, his moments of honesty, sagacity and self-reflection that boost his appeal and makes us faithful. In short, he's a total package actor in the same way that Johnny Depp is a total package actor. Johnny is a great performer, but he's also handsome and an enigmatic personality. We never know what he is going to say or do, and like Zac he can be very mature and very immature. What I'm trying to say is Zac needs to realize it takes several qualities working together to solidify an actor and give him longevity, and he has them. Johnny D was pimped out for his sex appeal in his early career too. It's *normal*.

He needs to realize recognition for his talent will come if he stays the course and doesn't derail with drugs and alcohol. He is not Robert Downey Jr who can still be a genius when he's bombed. Some people can and some people can't, and Zac (like me), can't.

Re: Zac's bare ass on the Today Show
Zac might want to be known for his work/good performances but I'm sure he knew when he made this movie that no matter how good he would be, this won't be the performance he gets credibility for.

It's his first wide/commercial release in a while and he has a lot riding on it otherwise too, so I think it's more important for him that the movie does as good as possible. And the film needed a bit a splash... it had very little buzz beforehand. Plus, I think he also needed/wanted people to start talking about something else than his rehab and his naked ass was doing the trick just fine.

In short, I think Zac might have been ok with his ass being the topic of discussion in this specific case.

Awesome Clip I'm really forwarded to see this movie next year.

So what's all this about Zac being a producer on this project? Treehouse Pictures doesn't list him as such on their web site, just Zac pals Jason Barrett and Michael Simkin.

Ninjas Runnin Wild, which is listed in the credits on the trailer, is Zac's production company.

Zac is listed as executive producer on the latest material from the distributor. But in the end, it's not that important if he has a formal credit imo. He and his company were involved right from the beginning and based on little tidbits we got here and there he seemed to have an active part during the entire production. Not as the main producer but more than just an actor.
