From People:
Zac Efron Completed Rehab Stint

Zac Efron hasn't been seen out and about on the nightclub scene as of late – and it sounds like there's a reason.

The actor, 25, completed a stint in rehab about five months ago, sources confirm to PEOPLE.

The actor – who recently walked the carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival – is "doing great," a source tells PEOPLE. "He's taking care of himself and it shows."

Efron will next star in Parkland, a drama about the Kennedy assassination. "It's really a surreal experience for me," he tells USA Today of working on the film. "It feels very mature and really interesting. It's a whole different kind of filmmaking and I feel blessed to have been a part of it."

I'm not surprised by this news. I am happy for him and I have a lot of respect for him being self aware enough that he realized he needed to change a behavioral pattern before it seriously affected his well-being. I am also glad his parents maintain an active role in his life and support him and help him to make the best choices for himself. Hollywood is a difficult place to exist in. A lot of people don't like to see that accompanying the money, fame and success, are a host of negative things. It becomes a very isolated existence, even if you have a lot of friends. Let's look to the future and not the past, he is clearly on a positive path and I'm happy about that.

Additional note (Sep 19th):
Now that this is out, many people will try to make a quick buck by selling their story. So please take new stories with a grain of salt cause some of it doesn't add up.

This news, sadly, comes as no surprise to me. I've known for awhile now that he was abusing something and I had a feeling it was cocaine.

I'm just so very glad he got help. As someone who studied mental health in college I know that admitting that you need help is a huge part of the battle. I'm proud of you, Zac. </p>

With that said, it bothers me that some articles are saying he beat his addiction. Yes, he is clean but it's not a magic cure all. Addiction is a disease and a constant struggle. I hope people understand and respect that. And I hope that he has cut ties with all the hangers-on and toxic people he surrounded himself with for so long.

I second that. I wish people wouldn't make like he's all fine and well now.

this will probably be weird but I think that going to rehab is one of the best things that happened on Zac's personal life in such a big time. I'm really happy he got to take care of this before it got (more?) out of control and that he has a very loving and supportive family. It can't be overstated how much this is important for a person who is struggling with addiction.

I'm really happy that he cut off the toxic people from his life. We all noticed he has been hanging out with his HS friend and family more often and good for you, Zefron. I'm really proud. His face and body look so much better too.

Aaaaaaaaaand I'm really glad he hasn't been in a movie set since May. Those places can be very "enabling" and he really needed/needs some time to grow a thick skin and be able to keep fighting his addiction. People around him will be doing all sorts of things that will probably tempt him but I hope not enough.

Anyway, this means no more Paris Hilton, random Vegas trips, random yatch parties, DUI friends, etc and I'm happy. One day at time, Zefron :)

"I'm really happy that he cut off the toxic people from his life."

The trick is to acquire a complete change in attitude: He needs to realize that the "friends" who want to help him "have fun" are actually enemies, people upon whom he should instantly turn his back, if he doesn't pause long enough to punch them out.

My only disappointment in all this is that he ever succumbed in the first place. He knows better. He's seen a dozen horrid examples around the Hollywood scene. DiCaprio told him there's only one way he could screw it all up. The weak point may be his thrill-seeking personality. But of course, booze and drugs are bungie jumping without the line.

"booze and drugs are bungie jumping without the line"

Very well put.

He knows better.

He does. He knew it when he said during The Lucky One interview, "No, there are some things I need to change." On the other hand, knowledge is worthless in the face of something bigger than yourself. It's like knowing a hurricane is coming: you can't stop it.

The only stupid thing he did was pick up the first time, but then again, how was he supposed to know that he was going to be one of the "lucky" ones? There's no way of telling beforehand who will become an addict. If there was, it'd be so much easier.

As for thrill-seeking, it struck me that it may have been a side effect of his addiction. Now that he's clean, he may not be as apt to jump off a building without a parachute. Also, if there's a mood disorder involved (which I highly suspect), if he's taking meds it might tone his ass down. (-;

But that's not a bad thing. What he needs to realize is it takes more balls to go to treatment than to keep using. It takes real courage to look the demon in the face and call it by its name than to hide from it and pretend it isn't there. It takes guts to admit defeat, although as soon as you admit it you can become victorious.

I just hope he doesn't feel bad about himself. He puts on like he's this super-confident guy but inside there's a boy full of self-doubt who berates himself with his "failures". That's why he's an easy target for the druggie losers: they see that insecurity, and make bank by manipulating it to their ends.

My hope is the choice to attend rehab was made by Zac in the most willing of ways with an acceptance that he is weak when it comes to ___ in his life. There was a disconnect for a long while now that raised red flags and told truths of substance abuse. The completion of treatment is wonderful and my wish is for the effects to be long-term.

I hope he finds light again and equips himself with the tools, support and individuals who will aide in keeping balance and stability. There's no shame in admitting one needs help. The gumption it takes (took) to restore oneself back to neutral is admirable.

There's a resilience about Zac I've always been drawn to. I pray that inner strength guides him to peace with his demons, whatever they may be.

Just wondered how it is that everyone knows this report is true...after all the days he missed in filming were for his broken arm weren't they?

I'm not saying it's not true I just haven't seen any evidence that makes me believe it yet.

Zac is Wiser!
hell yeaaah finally someone who questions this bullshit!
im sorry but i keep very informed thanks to people super near him and that knows inside infos as all of you and i've NEVER heard about addiction! i only knew that Z for ONLY A PERIOD which wasn't that long, he used to hang out with the wrong people but then he stopped immediately.
paris hilton? he went just ONE time and not with her at all, she simply was part of the crew to the party. bad crew? maybe for a month! yatch parties?! one with his NORMAL friends and one with cavalli! i wonder how could he ever have gotten drug or too much alcool! cavalli is an adult man..he was with him all the time! i doubt he's addicted too so he could encourage zac to take drugs or alcool! I get inside infos about him since 2011 and i've never heard things that could make me think about rehab!
come on!!!!

1) his REPS did not confirm anything and they talk about "a suorce" which, till now, it has been the best clue to disclam a rumor!
2) not only we know that 5 months later (i wonder why the person who revealed that could not have done it one month ago or before...xD why just now? bc its a lie!!!!)
but we also get a "reliable news" without getting to know FROM WHAT he was addicted. So, since its all confused, media start playing with the story and whooalaaa for someone it was cocaine, for someone else it was alchool...but experience tells me that when a story comes out and it gets at least 3 versions completely different with different details, i consider it FALSE!
3) i wonder how now some of u say that its not a surprise! xD there are no signals to think he was addicted (by what its still a mystery!) you simply tried to focus on the FEW mentions of zac in vegas, with paris, on the yatch and decided to be influenced by this stupid article! so an innocent trip on a yatch with cavalli for you becomes an occasion to snif more maybe and the condom drop what has to do with the addiction? so if he had a condom this meant he was going FOR SURE to get dangerously drunk or take drugs to have sex with girls?! im sorry but all the things u seem to take as "signals" are NORMAL things a guy does! the fact he does party a lot?! im sorry but i don't think its always its choice! most of the times he's in a night club to celebrate spmething that has to do with his career and that has to do with movies or after parties...the 80% of parties he attends its for work! AND WOULD U REALLY THINK THAT AN ADDICTED GUY WOULD NOT DRAW ATTENTION WITH HIS BEHAVIOUR?! i guess no! there would have been many people mentioning zac or filming him especially in vegas, with pics to sell to mags. i'm sure those parties with celebs are full of people who are looking fprward to that! but this never happened while ALL OTHER CELEBS WHERE ALWAYS CAUGHT WHEN THEY DID SOMETHING BAD OR DID GO TO REHAB. Zac's story now appears such like a ghost!

I WAIT FOR HIS CONFIRMATION, THEN I'LL BE HAPPY HE ASKED HELP, but till that moment i am not going to belive it, especially if zac is the wise man he IS, and this story has not a real foundation in facts that where reported of his addiction months before when he started. I DO KNOW HE USED TO HANG OUT WITH NEGATIVE PEOPLE BUT ONLY FOR LIKE 2 Months! so that's my opinion about this rehab thing! i also do think he had too many movies to have the time to go to rehab...and i don't comment the signal of addiction bc he changed the face and the body and gained some pounds bc that's just not pertinent. THERE ARE NO RELEVANT AND SURE PROVES TO SAY ZAC WAS ADDICTED in my opinion!

im ITALIAN sorry for the mistakes

I'm new to posting here but thought I would make a couple comments regarding Zac's current situation.

First of all, I found this tweet to be really great. Looking back, it makes much more sense that he was with Rob Lowe around the 4th of July. I always thought it was strange but seeing that Rob was a teen star who is know for his commitment to his sobriety, I can see that Zac may be looking to him for guidance.

"A thought: if you only find out a person has been to rehab weeks or months after they got out, they're probably serious about recovery."

Secondly, I checked Zac's twitter and he is no longer following any of his "friends". He is now only following cast members such as Michael and Miles but all the others are gone. I'm almost positive he was following some of them before.

Hi and thanks for that tweet. It's nice to see he's getting help from people who have been around for a long time.

As for his twitter - he never followed any of them. I'm certain about this. All following is actually done by his social media manager. But I surely do hope he surrounds himself with better people going forward - on-and-offline.

I usually lurk on this site but I want to add my two cents about Zac. I very proud of him for going to rehab. I know it is hard for people to take ownership of their addiction and seek help. Even though he is on vacation, I am sure his team is keeping updated on the media response to the news. I wanted to say that it is easy to love perfect people but it's the imperfect ones that need the most love.

Hello peoples, I haven't been here for a while.

All I can say upon hearing this news is, way to go, Zac... we all have our demons. And we all need help from time to time. You continue to be a stand-up guy.

love you, boy
