'Parkland' ET Preview (trailer eventually too lol)

via @efronzacharynet

I'll post a link to the trailer when it goes up on Yahoo. I probably can't embed it because LJ sucks and Yahoo iframes aren't whitelisted.

ETA: meant to post too that it sounds like Zac isn't going to Venice per @zacefron_news. But IS expected to go to TIFF per this press release and it is showing on Friday, 9/6 at 9:30pm and Sunday, 9/8 at 12:30pm at TIFF.

Also, tweeted a couple days ago, but should have added it here too, lol, the website is up here and the release date changed to October 4th.

this might be a dumb question but did they use old footage of Kennedy being shot and then acted everything else from there? or did they have an actor who was going to play Kennedy?

they have an actor playing kennedy. he's played kennedy in other movies too. but it looks like they may mix in some historical footage.

This has nothing to do with Parkland, per se, but I saw Lee Daniels' The Butler over the weekend, and James Marsden played JFK.

The trailer is better than I expected, so I am very pleased.

Also, Zac shouting medical orders. bye.

I'm appalled by the amount of Billy Bob Thornton on the trailer because I didn't think he would be the one with the most screen time but, well, I'll get over it.

I like the tone and pacing of the trailer and I really like the title card and etc. Nice font, guys.

The fact that we only have to wait two weeks until the first reviews is very exciting \o//

C, Do we know yet if it will be a limited or a wide release? I'm thinking (hoping) that the release date was moved in order to give them more time for advertising and showing the trailer during the previews in theaters, etc.

Also, for having what appears to be top billing, it seems that Zac doesn't really have much screen time.

The billing is actually alphabetical, with Paul Giamatti being the exception and getting the "and" at the end. Zac just happens to be first with that shorter list of actors then.

I wouldn't conclude his screentime from the trailer. I think it was good to use characters/scenes which are more familiar to the audience instead of hospital scenes which are either bloody or need more explanation. And tbh Zac's credibility isn't that high in the target demo, so having less of him in the trailer to not scare them away might be a good idea. It's not like they are hiding Zac.

As for the release... I expect a limited release. Tbf it's too late for a wide release already. They would need more than 6 weeks to promote it properly for that. 6 weeks is more than tight even for a limited release... they are more than cutting close. I hope it's enough to generate enough awareness.

"I wouldn't conclude his screentime from the trailer."

That's my hope. I agree that they are probably slanting the trailer to highlight historically familiar events for the audience. This is a neat idea for a movie -- what happened behind the scenes to ordinary people during a major historic incident -- but public focus will naturally lean toward the assassination, the assassin, the victim, etc.

I'm just hoping that the movie itself will stick to its premiss and give us lots of Zac time.

" And tbh Zac's credibility isn't that high in the target demo"

That's why I'd like to see this one play in wide release. Time to get the thirty-plussers accustomed to seeing Zac as just a regular actor.

Heh heh. I can just imagine all the folks in the mature audience, asking themselves, "Hey, isn't that the guy from that Disney movie that our kids drove us crazy with, by playing it over and over and over?"

No. No. Must have wide release. Must have w I d e release. If we count from this coming Friday, they would have 7 weeks. Must have W I D E release.

It's 6 weeks from this Friday. And a wide release needs normally at least 2-3 months. Plus, at minimum $15-20m promo budget... which is the bigger problem I would assume.

If the movie is good and then does well in limited release it will expand. But nobody is going to bet that much money on a drama without big movie stars and a newbie director. And we don't know how much mainstream appeal the movie has either. Heck, even Steven Spielberg's Lincoln almost didn't get a theatrical release.

You want the movie going wide? Keep your fingers crossed for the movie being very good. That's like the prerequisite. If that happens, we can look at the next factor.

I never realized promo for movies was that much, just on promo.
lilly4848lilly4848 on August 23rd, 2013 03:16 pm (UTC)
Ok. So I can't count. :)
I wonder if anyone here has seen it yet. I'd like to know what they thought. If it doesn't go wide, I probably won't get to see it. That's so sad.
Must go W I D E.

The trailer does look good. And Zac as a doctor (melt...) I hope this movie makes it to MS. It would be a great stress reliever for me (Zac is a stress reliever in himself).

Zac is not attending Venice Film Festival? That's crazy! It's one of the most important film festivals in the world. It's a huge honor and a great opportunity to earn respect as an actor to be invited there. Plus, if he doesn't show up he'll disappoint a lot of fans and reporters.

Is he secretly filming something, like when he did Liberal Arts?

kleth on August 22nd, 2013 05:51 pm (UTC)
True, he may have a schedule conflict. But this movie also has an odd cast structure. There's really no "star." So maybe they just decided that if Zac went to both festivals, he'd be getting too much attention compared to the other actors, some of whom are more respected than Zac Efron (but not nearly so sizzling hot).
annabelle83 on August 22nd, 2013 10:52 pm (UTC)
I can't see them promoting this movie without Zac. He may not be a respected actor, but he sure brings a lot of publicity to the project. I'm sure that's one of the reasons they cast him.

That leads me to believe some scheduling conflict is preventing him from going to Venice. I have no idea which movie he may be preparing right now...

i'm a little surprised too but it may also be a cost thing, like how much the distributor has to spend on getting people there. as kleth says, there are a lot of castmembers to choose from.
annabelle83 on August 22nd, 2013 10:59 pm (UTC)
I understand them using respected actors for the promotional stuff like the trailer etc., but omitting Zac from the Venice attendee list in favor of older actors? That's not smart IMO. And I wonder how much they're gonna spend to promote this movie. The trailer shows the movie has a lot of mainstream appeal and it definitely has a chance against other competitors opening on the same weekend.
