It's not a big surprise that it will show up in Venice after Tuesday North American status at TIFF but playing in competition is. That is absolutely fantastic news. Love it!

Was Parkland added later? When I first checked the list, Parkland wasn't there.

So happy for Zac and everyone who worked on this film!

Oh yes, Parkland was added later according to Deadline:

"UPDATE: Peter Landesman’s Parkland was announced as a competition entry after the initial slate was unveiled. Zac Efron, Marcia Gay Harden, Billy Bob Thornton, Jacki Weaver, Paul Giamatti, Tom Welling, Mark Duplass, James Badge Dale and Colin Hanks star in the film that recounts the events at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital on the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated."

Yeah, it threw me off initially too. I had the same problem.

From what I get it was actually announced sort of at the same time (although at the end) but it wasn't listed at the press release they handed out in the press conference or added to the website.

Please let this flick get a good distributor. With the serious story and the rest of the cast, this one could establish Zac as a legitimate, reputable actor.

Parkland is distributed by Exclusive Media's own distribution arm, Exclusive Releasing.

And while I would love for it to get wide(ish) distribution, I want even more that the movie turned out great and Zac give a consistently good reviewed performance, so at least he has that one showcase to hold up as proof of a great movie and performance.

I'm with you. But I think good reviews from Venice and TIFF will reach the industry insiders. I want wide-ish distribution so that it will play in many cities, where it can be seen and reviewed where the movie-going masses can be exposed. I suspect that his industry reputation is probably pretty good - he's now worked with quite a few directors, producers, etc., and they talk among themselves. It's the vast unwashed public that still has the serious HSM hangover.
