"The only time he's held up a production was when he had appendicitis, and even then, he called the powers that be and APOLOGIZED for holding things up."

Working through the pain until the end of the shooting day, then returning to the set after only 24 hours absence for surgery, is probably the story that has made Zac's reputation among producers and directors. "Hard working" is abstract. The appendicitis event provided a real example of his commitment.

However! Should Zac ever show his face around here, before I give him a big hug he will have to suffer a severe reprimand for acting like a hero and working all day with increasing appendicitis symptoms. If his appendix had ruptured, he might not have survived and would certainly have been hospitalized for a lot longer, impairing the production of 17 Again and endangering Me & Orson Welles, which was ready to shoot as soon as he was available (and he might even have screwed up HSM3, since he recorded his song tracks in London when he was there for M&OW and arrived on the HSM set like three weeks after everyone else even without any unexpected delay).

I don't think he knew it was appendicitis the whole time. The story he tells is that he just had this pain. Tom Lennon told him it was gas. Zac called his dad later and he told him to go to the hospital.
