Boo! It is not opening near me.

Will there be a premiere? I want Zac to watch it with his mom, just to see how red his face can get.

Noooooooo!! I don't get Liberal Arts OR The Paperboy? WTF? I didn't realize that Paperboy was gonna be limited. Man, this really sucks.

I just saw that Zac is gonna be on Ellen tomorrow (10/4). And of course, Kimmel on Friday (morning, so it's kinda like Thursday night). Any other appearances that we know about?

I'm not sure, but I think, the paperboy could get a wider release in a few weeks.

Just came back from the movie and I enjoyed it a lot more than expected. The genre wasn't a type I naturally gravitate toward and the plot seemed a bit odd to me. Within the first ten minutes my mind quickly changed.

I won't be surprised if Nicole and Macy are nominated for major awards. Nicole embodies Charlotte wholly and is seductive and shocking, yet gets the audience to be on her side because it's easy to see Charlotte means well and just lost her way along the journey. I didn't know Macy could be such a convincing actor, but she's really something special and her ease and natural chemistry with ALL the cast is a pleasure to watch. John plays crazy and sinister amazingly well (duh)- but it's not necessarily a standout role for him. Matthew should also be praised for his portrayal of Ward- it was a complex role with a lot of subtleties that he executed with grace and a hell of a lot of class. My heart ached for Ward, because his inner demons are a source of shame that if he'd lived in more modern times he wouldn't have to fight/hide as much, if at all.

As for Zac, it's his first gritty role that challenges all the senses. He's taking on the extremes of emotion, an accent and racial tension with admirable effort. His accent needs work- it's unfortunately not held the duration of the movie, but it's a believable drawl when present. We've seen him cry and yell onscreen but not like this- there's a raw edge (ie slobbering whilst 'ugly' crying) that Lee got him to go for and I was very proud of the growth I saw in his delivery. Watching Zac as Jack made me think 'he's going to be just fine', because he'll get there. I thought his most beautiful moments came when paired alongside Macy, followed closely by Matthew who is a natural fit for an onscreen sibling. I hope to see more roles that challenge his strengths (crying, he's a natural at turning on the waterworks and of course charm oozes from his pores) and weaknesses (accent and certain dialogue- in The Paperboy some of his moments with Nicole aren't as solid as they could be or have been with prior onscreen love interests).

I hope city expansion comes swift, because this movie has a lot to say and should be heard by the masses. It's not a Tour de France of film making, but there are little victories and cinematic magic throughout that make it worth a viewing.

Thank you! I've been ripping my flipping hair out trying to find out where and when it i showing near me. Ritz at the Boure it is on Oct. 12!

* This was an outrage that it didn't open in Philadelphia, PA, where both Lee Daniels and Pete Dexter are from!

Paperboy thoughts
I saw the movie yesterday in Chicago. Surprised by how many folks were there on a Monday at 1:35 pm. Mix of people as well. I would say I was probably the youngest there at 33. HA! I didn't quite know what to expect with all the mixed reviews, but I definitely thought it was going to be weird. I must say Zac had me from his first scene. I really believed he was his character. I didn't look at him as Zac but as Jack. I have to admit my favorite two performances were by Macy and Nicole, followed closely by Zac. Macy because I had no idea she could act. She was really funny and her scenes with Zac were adorable, except for one! Nicole really just gave it her all. Reminded me of her performance in To Die For which I also really enjoyed. I must say Lee Daniels has a very interesting eye. The way the movie was shot was very, very cool. There is indeed nothing like it out there today. The ending definitely took me by surprise. I literally gasped and who knew John Cusack could be so damn scary! My only complaint of Zac was that I felt like he lost the accent at some points and then he was Zac to me, but overall I think some of his best work to date.

My thoughts exactly on all these points! I went to an 11:50am showing and the theater was more than halfway full. I'd guess the average age of patron was about 50? Myself and one other girl I saw who looked to be 20 something were the youngest in the audience. That's also Landmark Theater for you- forever and always a 55+ crowd. (I went there to see Shame and had to watch it on a loveseat surrounded by a MUCH older crowd and was mortified during the ménage à trois scene, lol).

I saw The Paperboy this afternoon in Philly. It's playing @ Ritz 5, btw.

Let's just say I look forward to seeing it again! Everyone of the actors played their parts with depth..and angst. So impressed with Macy and Nicole...and ZAC. He was just fantastic and certainly went deep down and yes, delivered. The deep southern accent did need work, though.

Macy and Zac together were poignant. Her character knew him the best of anyone. Their relationship seemed the most tender of all. Of course, the movie didn't follow the book exactly. The ending especially was unexpected, but it gave Zac's character more hero status, if there is one to be had in this film.

Nicole nailed it. Plain and simple. Yes, this role did remind of 'To Die For' because of the kittenish sexuality, but the difference was she brought pure unabashed trashiness to this role. Raw, hard and honest, she was.

David Oyelowo was sharp, too! And his character diverted from the book somewhat, as well. I very much appreciated what Lee Daniels did with him. Matthew McConaughey and John Cusack were superb..as if.

Hell be damned if those sex scenes didn't make me cringe. How very disturbing, dark, nasty and violent. Lee Daniels wasn't going for sweet and gooey, that is for sure! I can dig nasty, but the pure violence in the mix was unnerving.
**oh, Anita/Macy.. NO! we needed to see just. a. little. more, even a few seconds... (you'll know what I mean when you see it)

Truly, Zac is so blindingly gorgeous. And you know what else? He's fearless. I love him. :=) There's no one else I'd rather see on the big screen more!

Macy and Zac had some of the cutest scenes, especially towards the end. Jack and Ward's relationship with Anita was so different than their father's relationship with her.

Not that many actresses could have pulled off the role of Charlotte like Nicole did and still play it honestly and raw. She really does deserve an Oscar for that performance.

Yardley was such an unlikable character, so I give props to David for getting that character right.

Nicole and John's sex scenes, and Matthew's 'sex scenes' were way bigger than the little 2-second love scene with Zac and Nicole. The Zac and Nicole 'sex scene' reminded me of the quadruple space scene in Me and Orson Welles, except more camp.

Zac was pretty flawless in this movie as well. His accent went in and out once, but it wasn't too noticeable. After the movie, I just felt so proud of Zac cause he really did a good job and really held his own amongst Kidman and others.

OT: But my little 20 year old self was the youngest person in the theater when I went to see it amongst about fifteen 40+ year olds when I went to see it.

I hope you don't mind...

here is an EXCELLENT review of the movie

"And, frankly, Daniels could have gone further with the straight sex. He could have not listened to Efron’s agent or his fan page or whomever and shown him and Kidman doing more together than what little we see. Still, I’ve never seen a movie like this. Not on purpose. Daniels isn’t saying he’s tasteful. He’s just saying that his tasteless trash is as deserving of our attention as the tasteful trash we feel like we have to see. The whole thing’s a crazy fantasy, like watching a porno dream it can win the Oscar."

Well said.

The Paperboy's release date got pushed back to March next year in Korea. :( Disappointing... It seems they hope Nicole gets Oscar nomination for this, but unfortunately it won't happen. They should release it next month as originally planned. :(

Very sorry to hear that.
For us, too, 2 times rearranged date ... But then returned.
