Cannes 'Paperboy' Red Carpet

I'll have more favs later and a review post etc. I don't have a lot of time just right now, but I do want to say that I think the experience of doing the film, whatever reviews it receives, was probably still worthwhile. As Nicole basically said, as an actor you just have to give yourself over to the director. And working with Lee, who is great with his actors (clearly since they seem happy to work with him again), and with Nicole especially, was a definite plus for Zac. To say nothing of the chance to go to Cannes. And most of the comments on him specifically seem to be positive which I am pleased with. More later...

They all cleaned up very nicely. Zac looks good.

And there is something about walking up those steps and posing for the photographers up there.

Everyone, and Zac, looks incredibly nice.

I love seeing Zac with such talented people up on those steps.

I must say he's really turned up his fashion game in Cannes, and Nicole looks absolutely stunning.

Aww he looks like a giddy little school boy and I love it. <3

I think it looks great, the hand holding with Nicole is too cute.

"To say nothing of the chance to go to Cannes"

This counts for a lot. Now he can say "been there, done that." Not bad just four years after HSM3, when some reviewers said he was going nowhere after that franchise except Dancing With The Stars.

The mixed reviews don't bother me, it's always better to be involved in a project that polarises public opinion and gets people talking than in forgettable fodder. Bear in mind that Fight Club miffed critics when it was first released and received a lot of poor reviews, now it's considered a classic. The Paperboy sounds like a very interesting and strange film that you'll either love or hate, depending on your tastes and how you like your cinema, but the experience is going to pay off for Zac. He worked with an Oscar-nominated director, opposite an icon like Nicole Kidman, for a film that was in competition at Cannes. And although there has been criticism of the film's script and direction, the one consistent positive has been about the performances. Zac is being singled out in even the most negative of reviews as being good. I can't see this damaging his career in any way.

Yeah, I vividly remember how much Moulin Rouge got trashed when it screened at Cannes. Some critics called it "garbage" and Nicole's performance "embarrassing". It draw mixed reviews but negative ones outnumbered positive ones. But it started to get a lot of hype with Nicole Kidman's popularity skyrocketing at that time, and it did amazing when it was released at limited theaters. It started to gain huge buzz at the awards season and it got bunch of Oscar nomination. Still, average score of Moulin Rouge was not as bad as that of The Paperboy... I wonder if Lee Daniels will edit the movie again.

Paperboy at Cannes got a short clip on Entertainment Tonight yesterday. The prime focus was Nicole and her dazzling gown; Zac was the only other cast member to be mentioned. This makes me think that they should build the marketing around Nicole - she attracts grown-up attention and interest. Zac can ride shotgun with his tongue hanging out, as he did with Michele Pfeifer for NYE.

Yes! These films are outraged people and people talk about them a lot. It is scandalous films. And it often brings a box office success

With headlines like this from Pop 2 It:

"Nicole Kidman pees on Zac Efron in The Paperboy"

who cares about critical reviews? You know you want to see this movie.

Yes, exactly. I see something like this comment.

Interesting photo on one of the blogs...)))
I think he was lying on the floor and talks to Macy Gray. (or with someone who came into the room)

And I can't wait for the LA premiere to find out whether Starla favors us with another "That's my boy!"

OMG I love his mother and I've never (nor will I ever) meet her. She just sounds awesome.

If her reaction to the sex scene in TLO was "thats my boy" I wonder what it will be for this scene? Hmmmm.....

Is it odd that pic reminds me of Jesus?

Maybe she whips out a Handiwipe and cleans his face?

Or exclaims, "He kisses his mother with that face!"

"Is it odd that pic reminds me of Jesus?"

As I understand, half of the movie Zac goes clothed exactly like this ? Hmmm ...
