Note: a post with screening feedback/reviews, the press conference video (if you don't want to wait, you can watch it at the festival site here in the meantime) and favorites will follow later. Just as a heads-up though, while some like the movie but the feedback is mostly quite negative.

France isn't big on violence and things in that realm. Of course there are exceptions to this, but I was speaking in general terms.

Irreversible, La haine, Haute tension, Frontiere - from the top of my head. The raw and the gritty is quite organic to the French cinematography as a whole, and a realistic, often subversively violent cinema exists as a legitimate genre and it does great in the box office. Whatever the mainstream French media likes to pretend to themselves when they snub la violence a l'americaine for the lack of better writing ideas in weekend culture columns.
