Paperboy photocall in Cannes

Note: a post with screening feedback/reviews, the press conference video (if you don't want to wait, you can watch it at the festival site here in the meantime) and favorites will follow later. Just as a heads-up though, while some like the movie but the feedback is mostly quite negative.

It think a lot of the negative feed back is stemming from the fact that they're in France and the film seems to be really raw and gritty, which doesn't play to well in that country.

Since when....

France isn't big on violence and things in that realm. Of course there are exceptions to this, but I was speaking in general terms.

That really isn't true.

Irreversible, La haine, Haute tension, Frontiere - from the top of my head. The raw and the gritty is quite organic to the French cinematography as a whole, and a realistic, often subversively violent cinema exists as a legitimate genre and it does great in the box office. Whatever the mainstream French media likes to pretend to themselves when they snub la violence a l'americaine for the lack of better writing ideas in weekend culture columns.

They make great S&M videos. Those are plenty violent.
