Ugh. I see The Zefron is entering the bipolar phase of his career. Here he is, on the brink of winning some accolades from grown-ups for serious acting while also in the running for a teen popularity award. It may seem harsh, but I hope he loses. More of that kind of recognition cannot help his career.

I think he should show up at TCA dressed like Dirk Diggler and carrying a stripper pole, and dance to Revolting Cock's "Pole Grinder". I promise you, they'll never vote for him again...
plus, I'll be really happy!

I agree with you, but ultimately as long as he doesn't entertain these types of awards too much he should be fine, and he's in good company in the category.

Ryan Gosling and Channing Tatum and Matt Damon are also nominated in his category, so it's not too bad. If they had him competing against Bieber, then I'd worry.

Good point. It might be a TCA but he's still in good company with the guys he's up against.

By the way, I see TLO has clung to its standing in the Top Five for the fourth weekend. $53 million domestic gross. Setting aside The Lorax as a special case, I think that makes TLO The Zeffer's third highest box office outing. Of course, it doesn't take much to top NYE, CStC, and M&OW.

I'm gonna vote every day out of loyalty to Zac, but when you have a film at Cannes, these type of awards seem pointless.

I'll still vote though, and hope he wins.

Miranda I Totally Agree.

"when you have a film at Cannes, these type of awards seem pointless."

That. But I'm saying something more -- I'm suggesting that being involved with the Teen Choice Awards is (marginally) harmful to his career. I don't care who else is nominated in the same category, it's still the Teen Choice Awards. This just calls attention to his teen heartthrob status and squeeling female fanbase. Remember Me & Orson Welles. One reason it couldn't find a distributor was because they only saw Zac as the King of Tweendom, and they didn't see any appeal of M&OW for that fanbase. So a really good little movie, and Zac's first dramatic outing, died on the vine.

I say "marginally" because Zac is obviously making progress. But note that his recent directors all seemed to express hesitation about using him because of his image. I give Zac a lot of credit for his ability to charm these people and sell himself as a serious actor when he has a chance to meet them. But things like the TCAs make his progress more difficult. He's a prince for not becoming resentful.

I don't know much about the TCA's but I heard a lot of who wins has to do with who's able to show up, is that true?
annabelle83 on May 18th, 2012 11:49 pm (UTC)
I heard that's usually true, but Zac didn't show up last year even though he won The "red carpet male fashion icon" category.

I wouldn't dignify this entertainment event with the term "award". Selection of winners is not based on either merit or critical judgement. I wouldn't even call it a popularity contest since anyone who choses can vote again and again.

Actually just to clarify, with the teen choice awards, you can only vote once per day. Unlike the kcas or mtv movie awards where you can vote again and again.

But that is true that these awards aren't based on merit or critical judgment.

"Selection of winners is not based on either merit or critical judgement."

That was obvious by the fact that Twitlight and The Lucky One are choice books. If there's anyone worse than Sparks, it's Meyer. Not only do her books suck, but she can't write either.

"anyone who choses can vote again and again."

So fundamentally they're based on the number of hardcore obsessive fans. Well, good to know who has the most potential stalkers, lol.

Channing Tatum should join Zac on the stripper pole.

Not here for Choice Book, but fingers crossed for Choice Movie Actor: Drama! :D
