Seeing the smile on Zac's face when he's talking about his old teacher and him being in his hometown just makes me happy.

Like all you can do is just AWWWW at the video and smile.

At least they gave credit to Arroyo Grande as his hometown; San Luis Obispo seems to absorb most of the Zac-related publicity by its size and proximity.

Can you explain the difference? I thought they were the same place, like one was just a county in the actual city.

"I thought they were the same place"

They are, for all practical purposes. The two communities (and one or two other small towns) are adjacent. Most of the folks in AG probably work and shop (and attend community theater plays) in SLO.

The residents of St. Paul, Minnesota, will understand the situation; Minneapolis gets all the notice.

No, they are two different cities. But, they are both located in SLO county. The city of SLO is the county seat.

The newscaster said he was a native of AG. I thought that if you were a "native" of somewhere, you were born there. That would make him a native of SLO, even though he grew up in AG.

"I thought that if you were a "native" of somewhere, you were born there"

That's the most common definition and usually applies. But it's a mushy term. The problem here arises from birth in a hospital in an adjoining city. He may technically be a native of that city (it is the city of his nativity), but he has no memories of ever living there. Jesus had the same problem; he was born in Bethlehem but never lived there. I'm sure he thought of himself as a native of Nazareth. In fact, he is sometimes referred to as the Nazarene but never as the Bethlehemite.
