Zac for The Golden Hat Foundation
Tumblr satisfythecrave has been scanning in select pictures from the book The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism, including one of Zac (ty to @parisbreedlove for pointing this pic out to me). The tumblr also posted some background about what the Golden Hat Foundation is and how the book came about:
In 2009, Kate Winslet provided the English-language narration for the Icelandic documentary, A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back to Autism, about a young boy named Keli Thorsteinsson who has a severe form of non-verbal autism and is unable to speak. Thorsteinsson’s mother, Margret Ericsdottir, and Winslet became very close through their work on the documentary and are now great friends. In 2010, Winslet and Ericsdottir started the Golden Hat Foundation, which aims to improve the lives of people with autism. Their book The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism (out now) features a section of Winslet’s well-known friends taking self-portraits of themselves either wearing or somehow including the “golden” hat — one of her own fedoras. Winslet asked them to include a little quote that would express one thing they’d like to say if they couldn’t speak.

Aw, so sweet and nice. Zac must have some special connection to someone with Autism. Miracle Run, the Autism walk last year, and this.

Oh, and Zac's little obsession with ninjas is showing again (;
Love the picture and quote though.

Actually I think his part in Miracle Run may be what connected him so strongly to autism. He had to do a lot of research for that role (He did a fantastic job with that part btw) and it may have caused him to want to bring more awareness to the disease, especially since he has a strong young following.

I guess Miracle Run is what sparked his interest in it, and yes, I think we all know he did a great job in that movie. Zac didn't really have a "following" when he did Miracle Run, so he must just have been interested in it just because.

Oh when I said following I meant more after the fact then in the moment when he did the film. Also he had a following when he did Miracle Run, it was all of 4 people (including me) but it was a start LOL

That picture is totally going on my phone LOL and I loved all the quotes. Also I like that he doesn't just jump on any bandwagon cause; he seems to stick to things that actually mean something to him which I deeply respect.

Ha-hah! I love the hat and the Bruce Lee pose! The philosophical quote nods to existentialist/post-modernist thought, though I'd argue that what we do reflects or demonstrates who we are - that immutable, ineffable essence that is the human soul.

And of course, Zac is a big ole sweetie-pie for his philanthropy. Whatever faith or philosophy one practices, the whole point, the whole meaning of life lies in giving to others. The proof exists in the deep and abiding happiness one experiences that is the result of pure altruism.

It's counter-intuitive, but when one is the most unhappy, the solution is to give more.

"It's counter-intuitive, but when one is the most unhappy, the solution is to give more."

here here, I've come to know this to be true.

<3 Zac for his giving nature and <3 Bruce Lee in the background!

I've got problems with that quote. What we do generally reflects who we are underneath; how many misanthropes perform altruistic deeds? I'm assuming what he means is that, bottom line, deeds are what counts.

I think that I read somewhere that when Zac was growing up, he had a neighbor/friend that had autism. That was all around the Miracle Run thing that I was looking into it.

Oh, I didn't know that. I'm such a bad Zac fan for not knowing these things.
