Wasn't this sweater "not liked" the first time around when he was wearing it? I might not remember correctly though.

ETA: "Not liked" by many I should add. I don't remember if you liked it. :)

Didn't realize (or remember?) he wore this before, but I tend to like what the majority is "against" re: Zac's clothing choices. ;)

I really hope the next videos will have more questions because just one per video is just boring.

"We'll be posting Zac Efron's and Nicholas Sparks' responses to your fan questions every week!????"

If so, they have time to answer only 4 questions... Zaс 2 answers and Sparks 2 answers...

Zac and that sweater is amazing.

All I have to say is he better answer my question and say my name like he said this person's name.

The opening made my loins shudder. Those pursed lips, ready for a kiss. Mmmm.

That's worthy of a picture, for those who can take screenshots.

I would prefer that he answered this and future questions honestly. What was he really thinking when he accepted this project?
countessm3countessm3 on March 21st, 2012 10:39 am (UTC)
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (-:
kleth on March 22nd, 2012 06:02 pm (UTC)
Well of course, $$$, but he would have gotten paid to make any movie, not just this one. But the pressure must have been on ... without TLO, he might have gone a year and a half without making any movie at all, and he's got a lot of mouths to feed. So I'll count $$$ as 49 percent of the reason.
Miranda gives everyone a chancemirandagirll on March 21st, 2012 11:26 am (UTC)
How do you know that wasn't honestly?
kleth on March 22nd, 2012 06:10 pm (UTC)
Because it's the predictable PR response: The story is sooo good. And maybe it is, for a romantic drama, but every movie he does has to have an acceptable story. I want to know what he discussed with his manager and agent when this project was offered; and I doubt they were saying, "Zac, you've got to do this movie, the story is so romantic!"

You do The Paperboy for the story, not TLO.
Miranda gives everyone a chancemirandagirll on March 22nd, 2012 06:24 pm (UTC)
Why his manager and agent wanted him to do the movie is different than why Zac wanted to do the movie. There is nothing wrong with TLO's story.

Zac clearly likes these type of movies since he said he liked The Vow.
kleth on March 22nd, 2012 08:17 pm (UTC)
See my extensive answer to ehs_wildcats below.

There is nothing wrong with any story, if it's got a smart script and a good director.

In interviews, Zac likes everything (except, he once remarked, country music - and I'd bet he would try to wriggle out of that admission if an interviewer confronted him with it).
Miranda gives everyone a chancemirandagirll on March 22nd, 2012 08:37 pm (UTC)
Okay, and this may have had a smart script and you know it had a good director, so what's the problem? Just because TLO isn't your type of movie doesn't mean you have to criticize all motives for doing a movie like this. There are a lot of people who really like movies like this, like me, so why not let them enjoy the movie than criticize why Zac say yes to the project.

tbh, I thought we were past this after we had found out he signed up for the movie and made it.

Enjoy the movie! I hope it's the best romantic drama of 2012 and is a surprising success at the box office.

I don't think I criticized the story at all. I just don't believe that the story was his primary motivation for doing this project (except that the story provides his first totally adult role).
what in the worldpolly_amore11 on March 21st, 2012 02:48 pm (UTC)
Well $$$ duh! (=:

but also what he said. He's Mr. Boombastic, a romantical fantastical lover. Playing to his audience, finding his voice, still coming into his art..

and he mentions working with Scott Hicks!!

"hope you guys like it"
... I'm pretty sure we will, Zac :=)

You really would prefer that he was totally honest about this stuff? Because if he was, he'd be another asshole like Shia dissing every commercial movie he's in. And it's always a great PR move to basically diss the people who like the story and that you want to come see your movie.

Ofc, I am curious about why he really did it. And I even think he could be slightly more honest or clever with his answers and wording and focus less on it being a great story and more about what he really got out of it from an actor's stand point or w/e (because he does take away things creatively from every experience no matter who questionable the overall result). But I also always prefer he be more diplomatic rather than less if he doesn't know how far to go.

That.

We discussed this issue here when TLO was first announced. I believe it was the general consensus that this project was not a good idea at that point in his career. It probably wouldn't do big box office, and it didn't expand his audience, it just reinforced the heart-throb thing.

Actually, while I would like to know the real story, I don't expect to hear it at this point. Maybe someday in a serious discussion on Charlie Rose or some future interview in a serious industry-related publication will provide some hints.

To summarize, since he wasn't doing anything else in 2010, the job kept him in the game; work is good. Also, he has said that he wants to do every kind of movie, so this let him check off the romantic drama category from his list. He wanted to work with Scott Hicks; as you say, he learns something from every project (again, work is good). I suggested at the time that he didn't want to say "no" to Warner Brothers; perhaps he felt grateful or vulnerable regarding the studio.

But I just don't believe he did it because of the story - except for one characteristic of the story, it being his first opportunity to play a role in which he wasn't a high school student for even one scene. He could have said that it was appealing as first totally adult role without spoiling the promo mood - in fact, it would have enhanced it.
