Is April good timing? I've forgotten. lol

yeah this was basically the date we wanted before.

though we are a little concerned still by titanic opening before it but w/e.

i think it is better than august still... and especially since after tlo got put on that date, step up 3 got added two weeks prior to it and that would've overlapped in demos.

Ok good. I just want the thing to fucking come out already. lol

like i said, i am worried about titanic but idk what other options there really are for it... rock and hard place.

since safe haven (the other nicholas sparks film) will be moving off of june 1 they could move later now (though not that same weekend since wb has rock of ages opening june 1).

they could maybe try for counterprogramming to men in black 3 the last week of may. it would definitely end up crushed by the MIB box office but nobody expects TLO to open #1 anyway.

it's an idea that wb may have to visit given the surprising success of the lion king re-release. it may also pay off if bahrani or paperboy goes to cannes... he could use that as promo perhaps.

I know we basically "picked" this weekend after Uni put a rom-com on 27 Apr but I was much more comfortable with the date 3 weeks ago. Lion King's BO is scaring me in re what Titanic might do. I hadn't thought it would be that big...
hunny miss (aka lets fead him to the gators)ehs_wildcats on September 30th, 2011 11:49 pm (UTC)
yeah titanic could be a problem. even if it is a limited release of two weeks (and they kept to it), people may still have fatigue and not go to another romantic drama. after knowing how well the lion king did, i'd have preferred the following weekend in april... if only that romcom wasn't there.

Seriously, they should just have asked us... we would have give them exactly that date.

Anyway, I think it's a better date for this movie although by now Uni has a rom-com the week after and I hope Titanic isn't too big but there are no really good dates left, so I'm ok with this.

Did Taylor get married?
Beejeezbee on September 28th, 2011 09:37 pm (UTC)
THR is just a mess. It's Zac's character's last name.

lol i think it is the second article they've had her name wrong in.
Shruticalcified on September 28th, 2011 11:18 pm (UTC)
I remembered seeing it before so I though maybe she changed her last name or something.

Actually, it is Adolph Hitler's exact birthday. Sorry about that.

While I think this date is better for TLO, I hope we get an announcement for a new studio project which actually films in the foreseeable future soon because otherwise he'll run into the same issue like mid 2010 again.

I love the indies he's filming this summer but he still needs a wide release for exposure. Idk if he can get something decent to film before April (not impossible but it seems a bit short-term since none of the known studio projects in pre-production seem a particularly good fit rn) but hopefully he has something in the works with a definitive start right after at the latest; something which has merits on its own and doesn't rely entirely on Zac.
dreamerskies101 on September 28th, 2011 10:47 pm (UTC)
Wasn't Snabba Cash supposed to start filming April 2011, or at least that was the deal WB made? Unless he's no longer attached...
Bee: Zac - GQ - Balancing on Car 1jeezbee on September 28th, 2011 10:56 pm (UTC)
Getting attached/developing a project and getting it actually moved into production are 2 different things.

To our knowledge he is still attached and is developing it, and the initial timefuse was said to be 2 years (which yeah would "expire" in April) but that doesn't mean WB will actually greenlight/make it. A big percentage of development projects never happen. I like the project and sure hope it does happen but there is currently no indication from WB that it is moving forward. It can change but unless we hear about a director being set soon, the chances are getting smaller every month without news.

The same applies to his other development projects, although they don't have deadlines, so there is more time for them to come to fruition. Unfortunately, none of them seems to be hot developments right now, so personally I think it's more likely he would do a different project we haven't heard of yet.

Don't Die In A Gunfight and Charlie Countryman actually have directors? Back in April or May the guy attached to Gunfight said they were aiming toward shooting in the autumn (speculation on his part at that time).
Beejeezbee on September 29th, 2011 02:32 am (UTC)
I was talking specifically studio projects as indies don't guarantee any exposure.

Charlie Countryman is an indie through and through and it's actually a possibility that Zac dropped out of the project. Noone knows for sure at this moment since that wouldn't necessarily be reported on at this stage but there are signs which could support that fact.

DIAG is an indie as well. MRC has a deal with Uni, so that might be a possibility to distribute through but again, nothing is for sure and it's not set up at the studio right now either. Plus, the director was clearly just talking it up in re the schedule. There haven't been any production related movements I've seen either. On top of that, recent reporting out of MRC didn't even mention the project as one of their dev ones, which typically means it's not on the top of their priority list right now either.

In short, even one of those projects moves forward, it won't give Zac the exposure he needs. It needs to be a commercial movie with a wide release.

OK, I see what you mean by studio vs. indy. Shades of M&OW. But I'm guessing that the Untitled Bahrani Project and The Paperboy have much better chances of gaining wide release. The dull-witted distributors can plonk them into recognizable categories. Oooh race cars! Oooh, sexy thriller!
Beejeezbee on September 29th, 2011 03:42 am (UTC)
The Bahrani movie will unlikely have a wide distribution. Bahrani's style is just not mainstream; it would probably need to get into the awards race in order to go wide.

The Paperboy does have better chances but until a distributor picks is up, nothing is guaranteed and while it's certainly more commercial than the Bahrani movie it's still not an easy sell.

That's fine though. It's important for Zac to make good movies and indies with small exposure are ok if he mixes them up with studio projects.

Thank God for cable! Eventually, millions of viewers will be able to see Zac strut his stuff. There can't be any question that a "sexy thriller" with Matthew McM(choose your favored spelling), Nicolle Kidman, John Cusack, and Zac Efron will be aired on the usual venues.

I'd give a whoop! for DVDs, too, but people have to buy them.

I think you mean 2012. The movie business is so nuts. Snabba Cash was an ace project after the Swedish original impressed everyone, studios bid against each other, Warner took a two-year option. So if it was so great and they spent a wad of cash to get the thing, why would they then dick around and not actually produce it? *baffled* *disgruntled* *depressed*

Fantastic news! Late spring - early summer is perfect for this! Plus, they still have plenty of time to prepare for promotions. I regained faith in this movie. Haha! Can't wait for more stills, posters, and trailers.

YAY! This is very good news, and I think you already answered this, but didn't you and someone else on here suggest this should come out in April? I'm just glad I don't have to wait til August.
