Bahrani: Filming, a pic, an article and out in Chicago
From Iowa via Facebook, with producers and Maika:

Here are some posts about filming today. Apparently they are in a place called Shabbona and the heat has been rough.

D: D: Apparently it is only 95 but the heat index makes it feel like 104.

These weren't used today but this is a cool thing to see from this FX pro:

The Northern Star, 'The stars make their way into DeKalb County'
Armstrong said the bureau has been involved in the film since early spring, after they landed the deal.

"We showed them all over the county," Armstrong said. "They came to us and gave us scenarios. They said they needed corn, [and] they needed a farm. We tried to match up what was in the county with the script and point them in the right direction."

Armstrong also mentioned that the director and his crew looked at Iowa as well, but ended up choosing DeKalb County.

"We did a lot of research in finding where to film in Illinois," said Killer Films Producer Pamela Koffler. "We had a specific vision for what the community should look like. The county was perfect and creatively appropriate for what we had in mind."

Both Koffler and Armstrong said they could not to give out details about the movie, nor the filming locations, as the movie was not a studio production, had a limited time line and did not have the budget for crowd control...

Koffler said the location will be given out in time.

"Right now they haven't started yet and we want to avoid unwanted attention, but I'm sure there will be a community outreach for scenes in the movie where they will be needing extras," Koffler said.

Jim Allen, executive director of the DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce, said there has been a lot of traffic already.

"They've been coming in a steady stream," Allen said.

Publicists for Efron and Quaid both declined to comment, saying they would be available for interviews when the movie comes out. Koffler said she doesn't know when the film will be released, but that making the movie will take about a year.

Since it got picked up by a few major sources, including People, I'll go ahead and post some stuff about what he did with his Sunday evening off...

From Chicago Tribune:
Zac Efron dined with a party of 8 at Japonais Sunday.

From Chicago Sun Times:
SEEN ON THE SCENE: Zac Efron — currently filming “Heartland” with Dennis Quaid in Iowa (and later in our area) — slipped into Sunda for a quick drink with friends before heading over to the Underground.

From People Mag:
Zac Efron had anything but a quiet Sunday night in Chicago: after a late dinner, the actor stopped in for a drink by the bar at Sunda before heading over to the Underground for the club's weekly dance party. Efron held court at a table near the deejay booth – but soon moved to the dance floor, where he got down to a five-minute medley of Michael Jackson tunes spun by DJ Rock City.

His niceness was noted:

As was his Dougie-ing:

Its going to take a year to make the movie? Doesn't that seem like a long time.

Its nice seeing people who recognize Zac's kindness.

Filming won't take that long but editing and post-production could, especially on an indie.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly is post-production?

The entire process which is required after actual filming to turn the footage with countless takes of each scene into an actual movie. Editing, adding special effects, possibly ADR, scoring, etc.

More info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-production

The pic is nice. Weirdly, Maika's hair looks sort of redish to me here; but nbd.

And while I feel sorry for the cast and producers with all the craziness, it's nice to know where and what they are filming. lol

Love the pic...but I cannot imagine how brutal the filming conditions are. Where I am in Ohio heat indices have been around 105. Thursday it's supposed to hit 100 degrees with the heat index of 110. Can't imagine it'd be much better in Illinois.

When I saw he went out Sunday I thought 'dang he makes friends fast' lol. Glad to see people compliment his manners though

I live right around where they're filming and holy damn, the heat is BRUTAL. I can't imagine having to be outside in it for any length of time. I almost melted just walking a couple blocks to my car from work... ugh, terrible. Poor Zac (and company)!!
