New project - "The Paperboy" :)
News from Cannes!

From Screen Daily:
Buyer interest is swirling around the $20m Lee Daniels project The Paperboy, a sexy thriller that has been reconfigured with Matthew McConaughey, Zac Efron, Sofia Vergara and Tobey Maguire in talks to star.

From THR:
[The story] follows a Miami Times reporter as he returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the imprisonment of a death row inmate. Pedro Almodovar developed a feature project with Dexter for more than a decade before Daniels became involved early this year...

“This is a good film for us,” said [executive producer Avi] Lerner, “a project that has Pedro Almodovar attached, is set in the steamy South, directed by Lee Daniels, Hilary Shor producing, and with the incredible cast of Matthew, Tobey, Sofia and Zac.”

Good cast, excellent Oscar/BAFTA/etc. nominated director Lee Daniels (for Precious), fingers crossed great script!

Excited, I am!

ETA: More about plot from Vulture via the playlist:
It centers on “the slacker son of backwater Florida newspaper editor and publisher, who gets pulled into his older, big-city reporter brother’s investigation of a rural sheriff’s murder, and whether the death-row inmate convicted of it was truly responsible. Being a Pete Dexter novel, things don’t go smoothly.”

this is be far the most excited I've been for a new project since Hairspray lol

I like that he isn't the only star on this movie (Ray Liotta and Kim Basinger don't count) and that it was has talented people on its crew. Everything won't be on Zac's shoulders like CstC, TLO and others of his upcoming projects.

Jack isn't the most interesting character ever but it is a very good role for Zac nonetheless. I hope Tobey will be his brother... if it is Matthew, this will be ironic.

me too. i knew it had to happen sometime :D

i kind of hope he can still do the bahrani project too, but idk. that was a nice thing to hear about too, that he was even getting offers for films like that, with such an interesting and good director.

Yeah that sounded interesting. Idk I just don't want him to be doing basically the same movie over and over and most of the things we've heard him attached to are very similar. idk how it'll pan out.

Love the project for many different reasons, starting form the fact that he's finally moving away from the TLO & NYE-esque movies. It has a solid director and cast. And it targets a new, more grown up demo, all at the same time he doesn't have to do the heavy-lifting himself.

Matthew McConaughey has been revamping his image recently with Lincoln Lawyer being a success and Linklater's Bernie and Killer Joe coming before this is out, he will have an even better rep by then. And Tobey and Sofía are great too.

Millenium/Nu isn't the very best production company but fingers crossed.

I think this also has decent chances of a wide distribution with a mini-major or so picking it up if things go well.

That is too much hotness for one movie. Period. I like this idea

You just had to say Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey, and I was sold on the movie.

I'm probably more excited about this movie than I should be.
Whether Zac had to seriously audition for this role or not, I am glad he got it. This movie, cast, and director sounds sooo good :)

Now, this is another book I have to read before the movie comes out.
Do you realize Zac has made 2 movies, so far, based off of books? And now this one? It's been making me read a lot more books that I normally wouldn't read, but enjoy reading.

Anyways my point is I am really proud of Zac right now :)
