TLO Locations Info and Sparks' Set Visit
Most of this press release we really already know so I'm just going to post the locations stuff:
The film is being shot in and around New Orleans, Louisiana, notably in the surrounding communities of St. Bernard Parish, Covington, Abita Springs, Burnside, Ponchatoula and Madisonville.

Also Nicholas Sparks twittered:

And someone else on twitter mentioned his daughters were with him and met Zac.

Obviously I'm speculating but I don't think so. Unless an author is an (exec) producer, they normally have nothing to say (from what I get Twilight/Meyer is an exception); even then it might be only a formality without any power (like Sherwood). Since he is a producer on his next adaption... would he have something to say already, there wouldn't be much a need for this imo.

Also, his tweets are sort of different - everything he tweeted about TLO so far sounds more like he is an observer; in contrast to his next movie (sorry, forgot the name) where he was recently tweeting that they are getting close to hire a screenwriter. Ofc I could be totally wrong but that's the feeling I get.

jk rowling is another one who is not a producer and i think is, by choice, fairly hands off. but obviously they court her opinion on some things and i think she could be more involved and have more veto power if she wanted. i would imagine this also applies for someone like stephen king on those projects he is not an exec producer on.

so i guess i think with a lot of the really big authors there is probably a lot of flexibility built in to their rights agreements whether they are producer or not. their stories are their brand after all so it is in their best interests to have those options left open to them in case they feel it is headed for catastrophe.

whether or not sparks does have any say, i do agree that he seems content to let them do their thing and just be more of, as you say, an observer.

I guess it's possible for the big names but I still think doing it through a producer credit is the more common way of exercising control.
