he needs common sense plus learning how to say no, lol. even when he had common sense he couldn't say no.

eta: irony is he probably lost the common sense by not knowing how to say no to people.

I feel like he's getting too passive in all of this and let people run over him (obviously I have no evidence at all, it's just a gut feeling). He needs to take things in his own hands, be more assertive and make (sometimes tough) decisions. In many things he seems very driven and knows what he wants but then it's like he's not following through and just let things happen like he doesn't care.

It's strange you mention this. I would agree but maybe it's the Fashion Magazine Photographer who is intimidating? Since I remembered this from his Chicago portrait: 11:24 a.m. - We move back to the couch. I try a profile of him looking out window, but it doesn't work. Cliche. Annoying. Hotel rooms. Ugh. At this point, due to the situation of thinking on the fly, I'm drenched in sweat. I suggest he lay down (what fan of his wouldn't want to see him lying down) but he calls the idea of him laying on the couch with his arms behind his back, "cheesy." Ok, maybe it was. I still hope to get a picture from above, but they all react negatively when I suggest standing on the wood edge of a glass coffee table.

But perhaps he felt comfortable saying no in that situation because he felt he's "experienced/knowledgable" enough about those type of shoots to allow himself an opinion because he's done so many of them and it's just a "small staff photographer" after all?

This shoot however, is with a "big" photographer, so yeah, he probably felt intimitated. Because it was a high profile fashion photographer who is supposed to know everything better than Zac. But I'm not sure it's the specific photographer per sé but rather the type of shoot. Where Zac probably thinks he doesn't know enough to object to anything and just goes along with it.

Just like Burr said in Details, he's so concerned with pleasing people around him that he forgets about himself/the most important thing. When your ass is on the line, it doesn't matter if the photographer is more experienced - ridiculous things are ridiculous and he should say so. He's not there to make friends with the photographer.

So, I think he's at a point where he sometimes needs to put his foot down even though he might not be the most knowledgable person about something. Of course he should still listen to other (more experienced) peoples opinion but he also needs to challenge them, even if he's the rookie. He doesn't (and shouldn't) be a total asshole about it but just doing whatever people tell him, won't cut it longterm.

It applies to this shoot, other PR movies but also which movies to do. Who told him to do TLO eg? Did he really want that and thought it was a good idea? Footloose showed that going against everyone else, was a good thing which everyone in the biz applauded and it turned out to be a respected move. I'm curious if TLO was his decison or someone else?
