MY CSS FOR TITLES DOESN'T SHOW THIS BUT I AM RAGING IN CAPS HERE
From THR:

Taylor Schilling has nabbed the female lead opposite Zac Efron in "The Lucky One," Warner Bros.' adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel.

The book tells of a Marine (Efron) who's survived three tours of duty in Iraq and attributes his good luck to a photograph he carried of a woman (Schilling) he doesn't even know. When he returns to the States, he sets out to find her.

The role was highly sought after among young Hollywood, with the studio conducting screen tests over the past two weeks. Among the actresses for the running were Abbie Cornish and Katie Cassidy.

...

Schilling, repped by Gersh, was one of the stars of NBC's recently canceled medical drama "Mercy." She recently completed shooting "Atlas Shrugged."

This is her:

No offense to her, she's got the right look sort of and she's beautiful but she looks kinda old and not just like a few years older! This was even one of the better pics... :/

AND WORSE... OVER ABBIE CORNISH! SHE WAS ONE OF MY DREAM BETHS... SHE IS SO GOOD! AND HAS SO MUCH CREDIBILITY!

IDK fingers crossed Taylor's screen test was legit better and they just didn't trade down from awesome Abbie (who undoubtedly is too good for this movie anyway, if we're being honest) over concern for the bottom line.

Dear God, please let this work out somehow. I'll be happy to be wrong about all my concerns. But OMG I AM SHAKING AND CRYING IN DISILLUSIONMENT AND ANGUISH RIGHT NOW. :''''''''''''(

Omg she looks so old.............

I don't understand how a group of people in Hollywood including him thinks this could be even moderately successful given the fact that the like, exact same movie just came out, with him already in it, and it tanked. WHAT ARE THEY SMOKING, this is so effing dumb and I hate having to worry about his career - the point of Zef is that we're not supposed to have to.
oh my god; that crazy bitch.: kaya | pin up girlmetrocard on August 23rd, 2010 11:28 pm (UTC)

You summed it up perfectly, Anna. ;______; I HATE WORRYING ABOUT IT.

that is precisely my problem.

like tbh i never understood why zac chose this role. i don't think it is challenging for him in terms of genre, demographic or even just character-wise since logan is incredibly one-dimensional (at least in the book).

but even more... i cannot fathom what warner brothers is even thinking with all these choices.

zac doesn't fit the role really at all.

taylor fits it, but not opposite him. and abbie would've been better for the film's credibility.

and moreover i can't imagine in what way this helps wb's long term investment in zac since i can't see how this moves him forward or to a wider demographic. it behooves them to have him be successful so why do this to him?

idgi are they testing him somewhow?

and testing their ability to market dreck? like let's see if we miscast him in a subpar repetitive melodrama how many people can he/we still bring in.

like you said, universal tried that... it didn't work so well.

i do have more faith in WB's marketing skills.

but none of it makes sense at all!

Completely agree with all of this, especially the challenging/interesting role part - why is he always talking about how that's his goal with every film now and yet picking a part like this? I AM SO CONFUSED BY HIS PROFESSIONAL LIFE RIGHT NOW. I wish he'd take cool supporting roles instead.

Is there a possibility that on that contract of his with WB there was a clause that he would have to do a movie of WB's choice before doing those other projects??
Like you give me money and then we'll help you??
Because I'm really trying to understand WHY ZAC WHY?
hunny miss (aka lets fead him to the gators)ehs_wildcats on August 23rd, 2010 11:58 pm (UTC)
i don't think his contract would work that way exactly, not so open-ended. but maybe with more specific projects?

like it is sort of my hope that it is kind of a package deal where they say ok, do this one and then we'll put you in this other picture that is much bigger and more challenging and wider demographic.

that at least explains why he'd take a project that seems like such a throw away for him.

but idk exactly what wb gets out of giving him this particular project.

it is business of course, so they have other things to think about. but if they have faith in him enough to give him a first-look deal, you'd think he's proven himself enough to them professionally that they'd give him a shot at anything anyway (within reason i guess).

plus doing this does the opposite of helping him with the male audience? so like what do they get out of giving it to him instead of another smaller name actor who is on his way up and doesn't have to worry about that yet.

idk, it feels like there is something missing in our information to understand why this is happening.

Lol I was only exagerating. I know there wouldn't be a clause saying things like that
But I think it might have happened what you said on the second paragraph.
I do think this won't help with anything, but maybe they were aiming making a great money out if it.
But in the way they are dealing with the cast choice among other things they should reavaluate their ideas.

And ITA with your last sentence.

i think my last sentence is what is so hard about this.

like i don't want to be negative but i just don't get it on so many levels. and i can't help but try to puzzle it out. but we are missing a piece somewhere.

Yeah. Like all promo he is talking about chalenging himself, trying to take different roles and everything, but then he decides to make a movie alike his last one. There is something very weird about that. There might be some explanation that we still don't know for all of it.
