Personally, I loved Kmmel last night. And that's saying a lot because usually when Zac's on I have to force myself to even watch. To me, Zac seemed more relaxed and "himself" than we've seen in a long time.

Re: the strip club. I don't think it's a big deal at all. In fact, in a weird way, it's a refreshing reminder that he's a 22 year-old man who just wants to live his life in spite of the constant attention and cameras trying to track him down. He may be a homebody or whatever but I don't think one "slip-up" is reason to question him. We know he's not a saint, nor should he be at his age. But based on the other headlines in Hollywood these days, this is minor.

I genuinely don't understand why people are saying he's exploiting it? Jimmy asked about it and he addressed it. He chose to take the high toad and not lie or avoid the question. If he had done that'd we'd all be sitting here asking why he didn't address it to put the rumor to rest. So he talks about it once and that's exploiting it or it's a PR stunt? I guess I don't get it...it's not like he took out a full page ad in People and said "Look I'm Zac Efron and I went to a strip club...I'm a man now!"

I guess my thinking is if people aren't going to see this movie, it's not because Zac Efron had a moment of questionable judgement and went to a strip club. From what I hear it has its own issues but I haven't seen it so I can't judge fully until tomorrow. I don't think most people will even give this a second thought now that it has been addressed (and very well I might add) in such a matter of fact way by Zac himself.

For a purportedly very private person, spending half+ of his interview talking about strip clubs in the most banal, smarmy way (albeit a bit cute b/c he's zac but) is completely out of character.

I don't understand why people keep saying he's 22 and can't have judgment put on him. No one cares that he went to a strip club. They care how he's selling himself.

this so much.

I'm glad that quite a few people here think that way.
This whole interview including the trailer is a big mess :\
I hope he won't go any further into the douchebro direction in the near future.

I'm not saying he can't be judged...I'd be a hypocrite if I said that. What I am saying is that I think some of the judgement of his actions, both in terms of the strip club and how he's "selling himself" may be a bit harsh. Ok, so it's different than what we've seen for most of the tour but for me that's what made it more interesting and refreshing. It's better than the same bevel of "are you close to your brother?", "what attracted you to the movie?" type questions we've been hearing ad nauseum since Philadelphia. Those sort of questions wouldn't have flown with Jimmy's audience, For me that interview was the most real and uninhibited I've seen Zac in a long time and it was nice to see him joking around with Jimmy and making light of a situation that didn't come at the most opportune time. None of us really know who Zac is, what we see is an image created to sell him and his movies to the public. When he veers off course a bit I think it throws people for a loop, but tbh I'd much rather see more real life events been addressed like this rather than relying on the same perfectly concocted image all the time. And if he loses a few fans or a few people choose not to see his movie because he acted "out of character" once then that's their loss.

But maybe that's just me...

I don't think anyone is no longer a fan...

But I don't know how honest I could view this interview, especially seeing his morning interview on the same subject, with Amanda. They both looked really... like awkward with it, and he seemed to be more in line with how he ordinarily is.

I guess I don't know how to say how while we don't know him, we certainly know how he presents himself. And he's said myriad times, in every promo cycle, that he's not doing anything too outrageous during them because he doesn't want to detract from the movie. Are we then to suppose that a late night stripper jaunt was out of the blue, him just ~being a boy~? While he was promoting, in the biggest city in the US, in one of the biggest clubs? A dramatic last minute shift in that for one late night interview right when his poor movie reviews and mediocre predicted b.o. are coming is not likely the time he's going to be most honest.

It's just grating to see him undersell his own charisma, in lieu of whatever this was. It's not that that isn't funny. It is. It's just kind of stupid. He knows how to be an adult in a better way.

Also what I meant by that judgment line is that I personally (and I'll speak for Bee, Kahlil, Cady etc in saying that they also) don't judge him for seeing strippers. Who cares? It's about promoting that fact, when all along he's said he keeps any ~bad behavior~ purposefully under wraps because he doesn't want to end up on Page 6.

Well yr on Page 6 now...

You know he makes a lot of hypocritical comments in interviews....for example....he says hes a private person...yet he has talked about his private life more in this promo then ever before...not that there is anything wrong with that...but it proves he's not consistent with his interviews and that should fall on his representation.

You understand what I mean about the amount of time he spent discussing it, right? Him dropping one sentence about Vanessa is not comparable to dedicating well over half of the interview to a strip club.

Also note that much of what he says about V (since I know that is what you're saying) is prefaced by - but I don't want to say much about it - and followed by vagueness. And it doesn't diverge from the exact kinds of activities he has said many times (including during this promo) that he doesn't enjoy doing. I'm not saying (and this is an important note, because for some reason this keeps getting lost in translation) that strip clubs are something he doesn't enjoy; I'm saying that he has said he doesn't enjoy purposefully drawing notoriety for personal life things.

And this is where I find your point kind of a non-entity: him saying "Vanessa and I like movies, at which I eat Sour Patch" is far from notorious. None of that stuff is going to make it out of his interviews and into headlines. In fact, the only two V related headlines I've seen before this out of any of his interviews were a. that he doesn't want to get married asap and b. the "incredibly hot" thing. But neither was circulated anywhere near this extent. So, in terms of sheer PR, it doesn't compute.

Agreed. Him dropping a sentence here or there, when asked is completely, completely different than going into this long elaborate explanation like he did on JK.

And just to say it again, I'm also not judging him based on the strip club. I really don't care. I'm judging him because it was o.o.c as least as promo-Zac is concerned. Which is demonstrated by his response when he was asked the very same thing again this morning. He had a completely different attitude, demeanor, whatever.

And, I agree that we don't really truly know how he acts. And the JK version may be much closer to reality, and if so, that's fine. That's where the hypocrite part comes in. Be consistent. Don't sing a completely different tune.

One other thing, I want to be clear that I don't think this makes me a bad fan at all. I think it's okay to judge him every once in a while. He's not perfect, and we don't have to act like we love every single thing he says in order to be a true fan.

:) Absolutely. Blind faith doesn't help anyone.

ia. like i think we all want the best for him and believe the best of him. we only talk about this because we are concerned. it's ok if people don't agree... we are all ok people and fans and whatever.

:)
You summed up my thoughts perfectly.

I know it was just a silly typo, but I just wanted to tell you that I laughed seriously out loud (I'm at work) when I read "He chose to take the high toad..." LOL

Hilarious!
