I actually really hate that they drained his character of any life. He was so charming and fun in the trailer - what he seems like in the TV spots was what I was afraid of all the time, namely that Charlie would be a killjoy lameass brooding bitch.

It's like trying to sell Zef based on his purposefully staid candids versus his real personality. They just ... took his charisma. Give it back. =/

The James Dean line bothered me too; a trio of Beauty and the Beastesque chicks fawning over him like the Gaston that he is is funny in 17 Again, but now it's like..... wth this is cheesy and off. It'll probably fit better within the movie, but the TV trailer is just all over the place.

...........OMG AT EYELINER BTW, CANNOT UNSEE.

Look, there he goes: isn't he dreamy?
Monsieur Zefron, oh he's so cute.
Be still my heart, I'm hardly breathing.
He's such a tall medium height, dark, strong, and handsome brute!

The only black guy in that movie/universe

The funny thing is that once people have the context, I'm not sure anyone will have an issue with it. Just now in the trailer it looks like that.

I actually really hate that they drained his character of any life.
But isn't that the entire point? He's not like that during the entire movie but without being that killjoy lameass brooding bitch (© Shruti) for some time the entire movie wouldn't make sense.

The James Dean line bothered me too; a trio of Beauty and the Beastesque chicks fawning over him
Yeah, that's not my favorite scene either.

I don't have a problem with the clip overall (it might not be *fantastic* but it's definitely better than the Hulu one) because I'm fairly sure that's the first TV spot/clip out of several (well at least 2 or 3 I assume) which "establishes" the character and you if they start advertising now, you can't do the same spot for the next 2 months... you have to have different aspects appealing to different audiences.

And more importantly, they are going after a very, very specific audience (pretty blatantly) - the Twilight audience. Hence, you have the character brooding, you have that song, you have the James Dean line... I don't think they could be more obvious. Realistically, going after that demo is smart - even if I'm not part of that fanbase.

ETA: I didn't see sovegna_vos's comment before I posted.

But do you think people really want to see manequinny Zef? That's actually my least favorite movie personality of his - and irl too, it's so endlessly dull. I'm not saying he can't brood; I'm saying him brooding almost exclusively doesn't sell Zef's likability like the movie could. That said I totally don't get when ONTD fawns over the most boring candids of him - since his face has such potential for vivacity, it just bores me, personally? - so maybe I am not the target demo. Why. I can be a good Zef stan! ;______;

I actually don't mind the scene at all! I just don't think it fits with the vibe of the whole segment.

I mean tbf: metrocard's mom was all about the clip, even if metrocard herself was like........airplanes and boys with dead brothers don't need wishes, this spot is whack. So it works... I guess we'll see the import of the Twibase; people's love for Edward almost seems to be to justify brooding rather than because of it (he broods because wanting Bella is SO HARD, not due to aromantic interests) but I have very specific thoughts on The Allure Of The Teenage Vampire haha.

I don't know about manequinny Zef but I don't think trying to sell this movie with all happy Charlie works. Because that's not what his character is about. Sure, there are also good moments but trying to sell it on Zac's likability is a bit like Summit tried with Vanessa's character in Bandslam. False advertising.

What I like personally about it is that it's seemingly different from his own personality and esp different from his previous characters. Being charming might be the easier sell for the kiddies but I rather see them trying to see it on his character than him personally.
