I totally agree with the article. It deserved a best picture nod. Congrats to Christian!

I just saw that article myself. It seems a lot of the Best Picture nods didn't even have the highest rating from the BFCA compared to other films. It sucks, but the only real criteria the BFCA requires of a film to be eligible for the "Best Picture" category is a rating of 85 && higher.

I really don't think it's to do with it being an indie with no big names - that's exactly what Slumdog Millionaire was. I think it's more to do with the fact that it doesn't have any momentum/campaign backing versus the other more known-indies. Which is sad considering its members did in fact submit the initial rating of 100, but that's the reality that is awards season.

What I'm confused about is that the BFCA still hasn't submitted their formal "Final Rating" submission for M&OW. I'm wondering if they're even going to anymore or if its initial submission is as stands.

I'm just really glad Christian got a nod, negl. I would've been more upset over him being snubbed than the film if I'm being completely honest.

if i had to hypothesize about why the film wasn't nominated is that too few critics submitted a score for it so they can't nominate it for an award. we know it isn't a perfect film so the logical conclusion is that sure it has a 100 score right now, but if more people saw it, it would go down. how much it would go down, who knows? and that's the problem. if they had more marketing and the power of a strong indie distributor behind it, it would have exposure, more of an audience and then it could be determined if it truly deserved to be a contender or not.
