Possible clue to Charlie St. Cloud's US release date
Universal Studios French website (via twitter) lists June 23, 2010 as the French release date for The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud.

It's hard to say with any certainty what that means for the US release date because occasionally films release internationally much later than their US date. But I think there is a good chance it will release in the US around the same time.

Zac Efron, Charlie St. Cloud to be released June 23?

I had 11 Jun 2010 as one option I sort of liked but Universal has already "Get Him to the Greek" there.

That 23 Jun French date could mean they want to put it out on 18 Jun 2010 - a US release date a week before the main European/non-English speaking ones isn't unusual. Funny enough, 18 Jun would be the "Footloose" release date - they will have to move it anyway even if they keep the current filming schedule.

What I don't like, it's too close to Twatlight, only 1.5 weeks. I would prefer the 11 Jun 2009. Perhaps they can push Greek one week back? I'm afraid they won't do that... The 25 Jun 2009 would be definitely a bad idea: only a few days before Twatlight which goes after a similar target audience and although CStC would hopefully have a bit more adult audience, it's still female-heavy which it shares with Twatlight.

I guess I could live with the 18 Jun although I would much prefer the 11th. By weekend 3, most money has been made anyway and the pattern set in... at least it has 2 weekends before the onslaught comes.

For both June dates (11th or 18th) it won't open at #1 though. On 11th it would be up against "The A-Team" and "Karate Kid" (assuming they move "Get Him to the Greek" since it's also Universal) - "The A-Team" would clearly win unless it completely bombs which is not expected. On 18th it's up against "Toy Story 3" and "Jonah Hex" - best case it would open to #2 but it could easily also be #3 or even #4 if the previous week opened strong. But I never expected it to open at #1 if released during the summer.

Anyway, as much as I don't like all the heavy competition, at least they seem to be setting a 2010 release date which I'm happy about because Universal has that bad habit to have movies sitting around forever until they release them (18 months isn't unusual for them). And, there is always the possibility that things move - nowadays that isn't automatically an indicator for a bad movie anymore. Adjustments have become normal.

It is possible they are using Get Him to the Greek as a placeholder and totally planning to move it. That is what I presume Paramount is doing keeping Footloose on that date. Placing films that way isn't unusual.

I agree that he can't open number one.... not unless they place it in August. But that is expected, no movie in this genre that has opened in the summer has opened number one, not even the Notebook which opened #4.

I think either of those weekends it is good counterprogramming, but I prefer the first weekend. I don't know that the Karate Kid remake will be that big (gut instinct, no research). A-Team will probably do alright, it's hard to guess how big... Toy Story 3 will be huge so I'd rather it didn't face that. Jonah Hex is a wildcard since Megan Fox didn't pull people in for Jennifer's Body and the western isn't really a big genre right now and it isn't that big of a comic book.

They have already started releasing pics to the film sites for "Get Him to the Greek" for that 11th June date, so I don't think it's a placeholder but that doesn't mean they can't move it by a week if it helps the 2010 slate overall. That date was planned without CStC but like you I think CStC would be much better on that date than the week after. At the same time, the other 2 movies on the 11th (A-Team & Karate Kid) are already male-centric, just like Greek so in my eyes it wouldn't be a bad idea to move it one week anyway.

I agree Karate Kid won't be huge (same - only gut feel), A-Team is unpredictable but I think even if it disappoints it will still be bigger than CStC. I would have to completely bomb to not beat it.

Looking at it again, it would actually make more sense to move Greek one week forward instead of pushing it back by one.

Toy Story will definitely be big and unbeatable by everyone. I agree, Jonah Hex could go either way... it also depends on how CStC opens. Unfortunately that type of movie doesn't open big normally. If he could hit $20m it would be more than good for that movie and the fact that he does have to do it all by himself.

I just hope they don't go for the 25th - that's almost suicide.

I wouldn't count on anything being set for Get Him to the Greek, even with pics being released. I mean, Shutter Island already had standees in theaters before they pushed it back a few months. So it seems anything is possible now, even a massive move.

I have the same problem I had last time I tried to figure this out. There is no good solution. Though unless they really move things around and make their summer super-lopsided, moving Get Him to the Greek up a week, is probably their best bet. It overlaps with that Ashton Kutcher comedy, but I think Get Him to the Greek could beat that.

Oh, I fully agree that they could move Greek. I just don't think it was planned as a placeholder from the beginning.

More like, that's what they thought was best when they set that date but that might have changed now with other movies coming into the picture.

i think that's a good time to shoot for. i hope it's not later than that though, it's not a summer movie and will run the risk of getting lost.

More than it maybe being not a summer movie, the bigger problem is Twatlight 3 at the beginning of July.

oh god.

and jeezbee's comment made me realize just how much i don't follow what's going on in the entertainment world at large. i'd never even heard about this get him to the greek film. but i just googled it and now i understand why.

Do you think there's any possibility for this movie to have a world premiere?
I wanna know the release date here in Brazil...It will probably be about 4 months after US premiere =/

Re: This is sort of nervewracking!
No most definitely not just you. With everything coming down the pipeline for the spring/summer, it would be nice to get a handle on things early on. And not to mention, if we get dates soon enough I can toy with the idea of making a possible trip for this one.

Again spot on gif my friend!
