MAOW London Premiere November 18th
From Premiere Hub:

Zac Efron, Me and Orson Welles Premiere London

Also, jeezbee pointed out some really interesting comments on the wellesnet forum here. I think this is the most substantial artistic critique of the film yet and raises some really interesting points. Just wanted to direct your attention to that.

And (per FF) the US trailer will be aired on Access Hollywood tomorrow. I'll post it when it is up on YT.

?: when does CStC come out, tentatively?

There is no release date set yet (not even tentatively except 2010).

That's quite typical for Universal though. They are known for setting release dates very late (later than other studios).

It's Audrey not Aubrey: Ruby Redaudrey_za on October 7th, 2009 02:58 am (UTC)
Just got back from the wellesnet forum. I feel ill-equipped not having read the book to truly understand the in-depth analysis and back and forth conversations, but overall, they did bring up interesting points about the casting. I was surprised some felt Zac alone could perhaps secure a US distributor (I did too- again, with limited indie film knowledge). I'm enjoying seeing the many perspectives and viewpoints along and outside the fandom.

Excited to see the US trailer! I keep forgetting the one we have so far (in addition to most of the promo) is technically a UK trailer.

That was incredibly insightful and well-written and LOVE that he called Zac Efron Lupine. I think that about him all the time. He totally looks like wolf!

I've been checking the official IoMfilm website and found excepts of an Empire review which is seemingly not online as a full review yet (at least on their website).

Empire is the leading UK film magazine (like EW in the US) so it's pretty important next to the big dailies. I was worried a bit about that review because one of the recent tweets was in response to a writer/reviewer for Empire who obviously found the movie (at least) boring. So I was very happy to see these two quotes for now - I can't wait until the full version becomes available:

Empire Magazine, September 2009 :

..McKay uncannily resembles the young Welles and catches the familiar mannerisms, but more importantly he inhabits the role of a man who was always ‘on’: radiating the charisma that made people stick with him no matter how big a bastard he could be, stopping every so often to improvise (or pretend to improvise) lyrical speeches, weaselling out of crises by leaving human wreckage in his wake, clowning like a baby desperate to win over the grown-ups, and pulling great art out of himself like a conjurer producing a rabbit from a hat."

"Around Welles, the film weaves a conventional but nicely-turned tale about a youth’s first steps in theatre, with Zac Efron creditably turning down his natural star quality to seem like a hesitant beginner and striking sparks off leading ladies Claire Danes and Zoe Kazan. Like Cradle Will Rock, it’s also a careful account of a legendary stage production, a ‘fascist Caesar’ with Mussolini uniforms and Nuremburg lighting. Welles’ Mercury Theatre was full of big characters, and this is one of Linklater’s large cast films – with heroic work from Ben Chaplin, Leo Bill and Kelly Reilly as real actors (it’s touching that Bill does such a dead-on impersonation of the scarcely well-remembered Norman Lloyd) and more terrific support from Eddie Marsan as long-suffering producer John Houseman. Verdict: A really satisfying backstage drama, this is an exhilarating tour round a man whose talent was almost as big as his ego."

Thanks for that!
Empire gave a really scathing critique of 17 Again - to the extent that I thought the magazine was anti-Zac. This is redemption.

so question.....if there is a M&OW premier in the states do we think they would have one in both LA and NYC? or one or the other????? just curious.
zaccy23zaccy23 on October 7th, 2009 02:48 pm (UTC)
I would think since it's an independent it will have only one premiere and I really hope it's NY at the Ziegfield Theatre or something. I think NY is a better choice given the subject of the movie and I seem to think independents premiere there more often.
