Zac to star and exec produce in new thriller
Fuck if we know what it is about but god damn it, it will be SEXY!

From THR.com:

Zac Efron has signed to star in an untitled thriller for Mandate Pictures, which is being written by Leslie Dixon.

The plot is being kept under wraps but it is described as "a sexy thriller." The deal continues the evolution of Efron from the teen heartthrob of the "High School Musical" franchise to a more mature leading man, and also sees him stepping into producing shoes. He will act as executive producer with Mandate's Nathan Kahane.

Frequent Mandate collaborator Greg Shapiro of Kingsgate Films ("The Hurt Locker"), Jason Barrett, and Dixon will produce.

Nicole Brown will oversee the project for Mandate.

Efron and Dixon, a respected veteran writer whose credits include 1999's "The Thomas Crown Affair and "Freaky Friday," first worked together on "Hairspray."

No director is on board.

Efron, repped by CAA and Alchemy Entertainment, last starred in New Line's teen comedy "17 Again," which grossed almost $63 million domestically. Dixon is repped by CAA.

Explains why he was at "The Hurt Locker" prem.

I agree, I don't want a rushed script either.

I've just looked up the dates for 17 Again. Filardi needed 8 months from pitch to script (before the strike). And once the script is done, you still need to do the casting, location scouting, other prep work - even if you have a director already. I really can't see it sooner than 1-1.5 years if it's not a total rush job unless they already have an early draft or so.

i think a lot of it depends on how far leslie is with the project. it sounds like it is still being written, but who really knows since they are being ambiguous with the details.

lol btw, this project is probably why he and jason were at that office building awhile back. i tried figuring out who they might be visiting then but there were too many companies there, mostly lawyers, to even begin to guess. but working from this they were probably meeting at the office of greg shapiro's lawyer. /sleuthing

Absolutely agree. I'm working on the assumption that there is only a pitch and Leslie hasn't really started writing it.

That's probably a good guess. However, if that was about this project, I don't think it's very likely that the script has been started. This is clearly another starring vehicle for Zac and that script will be written for him... and if he wasn't signed on until a few weeks ago, she wouldn't really have started the actual writing beyond a pitch imo.

Either way, it'll still be some time off and we most likely won't hear anything. But it's all good. :)
