The LA Times is just as gullible as everyone else
This is from an LA Times article today about Twitter:

"Every celebrity from Ashton to Zac Efron is Twittering, and it was even the subject on Oprah last month."

UMMM, hello? Fact check? Does anyone even do that anymore?

How many times does he have to say it?

Let's get Mark Milian to acknowledge and fix this error.

Please feel free to flood the comments here:

You can email him here: mark.milian @ latimes.com.

Or you can Twitter at him here:

Please share with him this URL:

or for you Twitterers:

(ETA, feel free to copy/paste: @mmilian zac efron does not twitter http://tinyurl.com/ct5xno)

Twitter posers are ridiculous.

And I would just like to get it off my chest that Lucas also doesn't Twitter, despite @grabeellucas having like 4,000 followers and having communicated with Perez Hilton and apparently convinced at least 3 real celebrities it's him. In case anyone cares. :/

That is good to know. I've actually been wondering about his cause I've seen it on Twitter.

I wish this LA Times guy would have used the opportunity we presented to him to address a bigger issue with Twitter which is why Twitter makes it so easy to basically adopt a celebrity's identity. They make it extremely difficult to report fakes and have them taken down. That is a real and useful story.

No, Lucas doesn't have a public twitter. Neither do Monique or Olesya. If Monique and Lucas did, they'd be followed by @marcblackwell, @directsfilms, @amypaffrath and @drewseeley, aka their rl best friends. Instead, @grabeellucas is obsessed with two subjects: getting more followers, and the offensiveness of people accusing him he's fake.

The real Lucas has let a poser squat myspace.com/lucasgrabeel for nearly 3 years and hasn't done shit about it, so I hardly think he'd care if some Twitter nobody thought he was fake, and he could easily prove otherwise by just taking a picture of himself holding a sign with the username if he was really that upset about it.

Also, @grabeellucas claims to be dating, of all people, Ashley Olsen. Please.

Most damning... @grabeellucas tweeted that he had the "day off" 2 Sundays ago, and tweeted all day long and even held a live chat. The real Lucas had two back-to-back stage shows that day, all day.

I agree with you that that's a real story. Although I don't know if it's any easier to get impersonators kicked off MySpace and Bebo and places like that. They're opening themselves up for lawsuits; this is why LJ will shut ANY journal down if it even remotely looks like an impersonation, regardless of whether the actual person reports it. I think that's probably the way to go.

I know I was reading recently that Facebook is equally strict, almost to the point of ridiculousness (like not giving people a chance to prove themselves before deleting it).

It is really really awful given how easily people believe anything they read on the internet. It isn't even just that it is identity theft but it is also essentially slander and defamation when people fake stuff that reflects poorly on the individual they are impersonating.

Facebook is hardcore about stuff like that, yeah, they don't even approve profiles with unlikely names. This has lead to people whose names really were Rainbow Lovehearts Butterscotch or w/e getting real profiles deleted and having to fax in drivers licenses and everything!! lol

I am actually considering emailing Marc Blackwell about the fake Lucas Twitter. He holds chats with hundreds of little girls and some of them twitter about how he gave them advice and stuff. It's creepy and potentially very dangerous.

http://twitter.com/KennyOrtegaBlog This, however, really is Kenny, since the widget is on is official site (kennyortega.com). And apparently Kenny Ortega talks like a 14yo myspace addict. I might die laughing.
