OMG! This sounds amazing!!!
Zac Efron ready for new 'Life'
Actor in talks for 'Charlie St. Cloud' adaptation
By MICHAEL FLEMING

Zac Efron is negotiating to re-team with "17 Again" director Burr Steers on an adaptation of the novel "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud."

The film will likely be the next for Efron, who just ankled Paramount's "Footloose" remake.

Former "Good Morning America" exec producer Ben Sherwood wrote the book, about a caretaker at a cemetery who manages to have weekly meetings with a younger brother whose accidental death he feels was his fault.

Marc Platt is producing, and while Efron's deal is still being negotiated, Steers is set and has already begun polishing a script originally written by Craig Pearce, with James Schamus and Lewis Colick also turning in drafts.

Production will begin in July. The Efron-Steers collaboration "17 Again" will be released by New Line/Warner Bros. on April 17.

I'm thinking he'd be playing Charlie.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am beyond excited, this story sounds amazing and seems to have it all.....heartache, drama, romance and ultimately, i would think redemption !!!!! WOW!

i absolutely knew he had something in the works when the announcement was made regarding FL. to me, given that he was willing to make such a move prior to knowing about 17 again's success really made that obvious for me.!!!!

and yea, he so should look like the pic you posted, especially if they want him to play someone who is a little older!!!!

gahhhh. so excited!

I love it - I'm very happy that he had some casting news immediately after the Footloose pull out.

I think this looks like a great next project. It's a drama but not too serious. I like that it does have a romantic subplot because that will appeal to his primarily female fanbase but at the same time, the core relationship is with his dead brother. I think acting-wise it's a great step forward, it'll requires him to stretch into new areas but is still manageable.

I've been reading the summaries - the one thing I'm wondering is if the dead brother also ages with him (ie is he still 3 years younger or does he remain 12-years-old)? And it seems as he would not only get to play his age but most likely even a bit older (even though I also doubt that they keep the character 28... perhaps mid twenties).

In case you haven't seen it yet, there is some nice info about the book (incl a video) on the author's website: http://bensherwood.com/?page_id=7

Also, I was wondering if it was an indie since the Variety article didn't mention anything (although basically all projects from Platt's production company had wide distribution), so I was happy to read in the EW blurb, that it's a WB/New Line project. Indies are good but studio projects are better right now imo but I've said that already in the past. The budget for this shouldn't be too big, which is a good thing as well - less box office expectations and responsibility.

While a new established director would have been nice, I also like a lot that Burr wants to work with him again. I find it very telling that almost every past director has enough confidence in him to re-team with him almost immediately.

And I forgot... with the right casting that looks like it has potential for a new ship to cause some fun. Lol.

Sounds interesting. I love when they make movies off books I've never read because it gives me new books to read. Haha...not the point of this post...but sounds like something different enough from what he has been doing.
