Nope

Good of Zac to be grateful for these things but they are not on par, this day is not about him, and this is so tone deaf. Unlike a ton of ppl, I actually dgaf that he won't go to an HSM reunion. But come on, this is embarrassing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw this and had to do a double take. I've actually been surprised at a few of his tweets lately. It almost reminds me of when he first got Twitter and the people running it for him were clueless.

I know he himself probably didn't tweet that and I don't really know how involved he is in telling people what to tweet on his behalf, but this is just so bad. They better get the social media in line quick. We all know he's not the type to sound so idiotic, but frankly he's kind of coming across as a self-involved douche....and that's sad.

some are saying his social media posts are being updated by sami? :/ don't know what to believe.

He's posting a lot about important black personalities recently but generally he uses the photo of who he's talking about, he already posted something about MLK, this last post is ridiculous because he seems like an egocentrical dude, not to say lazy and insensitive: "I will post two messages that have nothing to do with each other in one tweet"

it's like a classic marketing 101 error, trying to shoe-horn your brand into every tweet. dumb, and as you say, insensitive.

I do think she is 'helping' him. And if this is the kind of help she gives, they need to rethink her involvement in these posts.

I wonder too if he is aware of what Sami is helping him post. I'd like to think he would be, but it could also be one of those situations where he just didn't want to deal with it so he gave her his account info and let her have discretion on what to post.

I'm still kind of surprised he even agreed to take over his social since he's been so anti-social media in the past. For the most part it's been great, but this is one prime example of how it can go really wrong.

I don't know what is worse, he talk about MLK and his Instagram followers in the same sentence or the fact that everyone is complaining: "how about be grateful about High School Musical?"

yeah I can't stand that people are using this to platform on his hsm absence. they need to get a grip. in this day and age, we have actual serious issues to deal with, including equality, and they are stuck on a reunion.

I very, very rarely post here, but I agree with you on this one so much. Some people just don't understand this nor they ever will.
Aliciapop86 on January 19th, 2016 12:32 pm (UTC)
For me the HSM Reunion is much worse. Some fans are beyond ridiculous with their reaction. Are their lives so empty that the only thing they have is the dream of Zac reuniting with the cast? If after 10yrs HSM is still the only meaningful event in their lives then I pity those fans.

I think I'd get the reaction a lot more if it was all kids but these are teens and adults now and they are embarrassing themselves.

A few of Zac's recent social media posts have been a bit weird. Many have been really good imo but others not so much. His intentions and heart are in the right place but execution matters too, esp when you're judged on 140 characters. And this was not a smart tweet.

other recent pictures have been weird too. like surely he has better pictures from his trip so what are they trying to do. this picture is decent at least and would have been great for a dirty grandpa tweet. "wish we'd had my mustang instead of a pink mini for our ride" or "my grandpa is not as dirty as grandpa dick but he had a sweeter ride" idk anything (or nothing) would've been better than this.

Yeah, I've been making fun of his Saigon bathroom pic in the past. And I don't understand how from 2 weeks in Tokyo he chose to post one from the subway and 3 nondescript walking pics from the back. It's not bad, just weird. And his posting pics without any caption is a bit strange too.

Your captions would have been great for that pic. But alas, he made his bed...

I think a lot of the issues with his social media come from the fact that he's not doing it by himself on a regular base. Making good social media posts is practice and experience as much as anything else. And telling someone what to post (even if he gives the full caption) is still not the same. And it happens somewhat in a vacuum so missteps are much more likely.

It's like learning to drive a car on the parking lot and but then not driving on a daily base yourself but always ride shotgun. That way, you don't become a good driver either, no matter how much you give directions from the passenger seat.

Esp with social media being so sensitive nowadays, you really need to be more aware about what's going on (in general but esp on social media) and you can only learn that by actually ~being~ active on social media.

Of course he can and probably should have help (eg for cross-posting his stuff to his other social media platforms and esp for advice and making sure everything which should be posted gets posted) but imo he would be better off if he would do the initial posts entirely himself - from deciding what to post and then actually figuring out and type the caption. If you do this regularly you actually get better at it and also get more aware about sensitive issues.

And not to forget to check the responses every once in a while. He doesn't have to read them all the time but you get no feeling for how you're perceived if you don't. He could have avoided this issue if he just looked in his mentions afterwards, thought about what people were saying and fixed it.

Personally, I do think he doesn't particularly like social media and that he has to do it anyway but the same applies to other press for Zac imo. And despite him not liking other press either, he still does it and tries to be good and be aware about pitfalls. As a matter of fact we have many interviews where the interviewers mentions where Zac takes his time with a response just so he can't be taken out of context or misquoted. But with social media, he just doesn't put enough effort in personally to avoid those issues. With social media posts being treated like conventional press nowadays that's almost surprising that he would let others (presumably, at least sometimes) "speak for him" since he's so careful with other press.

I deleted comment because my computer was crashing and I didn't have time to proof read it. I re-posting it.

The Julian Bond tweet came from Sami. I give her credit for that one because most people don't know about him. The MLK Day and instagram was his idea. You don't go from Julian Bond tweet to a MLK Day screw up tweet with outside help. You make that mistake on your own.

I do wish he give up twitter. From what I've seen, he is not into it. I think he does better with instagram where he can post pictures he want to share.

Hi! I don't usually comment on blogs but I check this site regulary and read all your opinions, so I'm aware you know a lot about how media works (or at least more than me) and would like to ask if this tweet (that generated that many sites posted this) might affect Dirty Grandpa's box office? I know the movie isn't getting a lot of promotion and it relies only on Zac (since Robert isn't doing any promo himself) PS: Sorry for my bad english!
Aliciapop86 on January 19th, 2016 06:41 pm (UTC)
I doubt it will affect the Dirty Grandpa box office. In terms of scandals and internet outrage, this is rather a minor one.

Yeah, I agree with pop86. Unless he says something else to make things worse, I don't expect it to have any noticeable effect. But I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to acknowledge it and apologize.

I'd rather Zac get called out for this over the HSM reunion ya know something he has actual control over but whatever as long as he learns from it and apologizes, it'll all blow over.

what bothers me is I've seen some people say ~apologize bc it's making you look bad. I mean it doesn't make him look the greatest but that shouldn't be the motivation for an apology
