I just saw the Parkland trailer on CNN. Well, I didn't see the whole thing cuz I was out of the room, but when I walked in, the part saying that it was opening on Oct 4 was on.

I have still not been able to determine whether or not it will be showing in my area.

On a happy note - it's Zac's birthday month! And mine too!!

I went to the IMDb page, clicked on "Movies" at the top, then "In Theaters" on the drop-down menu; on the in-theaters page I clicked on "showtimes & tickets" and there on the date I wanted. Voila! It tells me Parkland is opening Friday at four theaters in my metro area, one very close. Can't complain.

movietickets.com has a lot of theaters listed that aren't on fandango if that helps

Not apropos to this photo, but check out "the story" in People (current, October 7 issue, page 75). People isn't the Wall Street Journal, but the WSJ isn't going to look into the Zac rehab story (they have a very constricted view of what constitutes important news).

This looks like the closest to legitimate reporting we're going to get. Not pleasant reading, but there are two items worth noting.

First, the story denies that Zac caused any delays on the Neighbors set. That's in character; this is a guy who endured appendicitis to finish a shooting day. Also, the story reports that his personality doesn't change when he's intoxicated, which is a good sign. He seems to have an integrated personality without hidden demons who emerge when freed by booze or drugs.

ive only seen a snip-it of it or read the first page of it ( huge pic of zac) so people magazine doesn't know who's party this was? it just says entertainers son and in all honestly who remembers what zac was like a year ago and a year later or so go to people magazine and perfectly remembers how zac was?

It depends on who you are. If you see Zac all the time, you wouldn't remember his demeanor on a particular date a year ago unless he did something very unusual and it stuck in your mind. If you never, or almost never, encountered Zac, it would make an impression and you would recall many details.

But you are correct in general, these sources are only giving impressions, and because they are unidentified, we have no way to judge their motivations - whether they are Zac loyalists (in which case they would probably say nothing) or they harbor some envy or resentment and they "remember" things in that light.

But I think we have to accept the conclusion that he was pretty much out of control. No one claims he was always sober, and his own spokesperson doesn't deny anything.

While it's true that Zac didn't cause any delays on Neighbors(They started and finished filming right on schedule), it looks like his drug use got worse during the filming and I find it extremely disappointing. Zac seemed really frustrated about his career during the Paperboy & At Any Price promo, but I thought doing an exciting project like Neighbors would cheer him up a bit. I was totally wrong. :(

Well, Neighbors is a gross-out comedy, and actors don't count that sort of thing when they are assessing their careers.

I imagine Zac wants validation for his serious dramatic roles. He has worked with good people and got some good reviews, but he hasn't found his break-out role or sparked any Oscar buzz. However, this is no excuse for endangering himself and his career with booze and dope.

I would be high every day, just waking up each morning and realizing, "Hey! I'm Zac Fucking Efron! I'm young, smart, good-looking, talented, famous, I have unlimited earning potential, and there are 7.3 million women in this country who will come up to my hotel room if I hand them the swipe card, without any coaxing or courtship rituals."

If he doesn't realize he is one of the most fortunate human beings to walk the surface of this planet, then he needs to have his tightly sculpted posterior kicked from one end of the Warner Brothers lot to the other.

I agree! I felt when reading his Flaunt magazine article that he almost seemed depressed. I remember he was in Texas filming Parkland during that interview. The interviewer mentioned in the article that Zac was drinking and he even made a comment to him about being drunk or something to that effect. He seemed so paranoid when speaking about the paparazzi and almost afraid of "complaining about his success". He seemed sort of angry and depressed. I always thought something was off after reading that article and now it seems as if there really was. Most people with substance abuse issues usually have a dual diagnosis of another psychiatric diagnosis (such as depression, etc). Most people don't turn to substances unless they are trying to cope with other issues.

I really hope he gets his head on straight and can stay sober. Being his age in Hollywood, most people his age are at clubs at least sometime. It will definitely be an uphill battle to resist the temptations. I really hope he can remember all the comments he has made as to how lucky he is to be where he is and knows what can happen to him just as quickly.

I said the same thing. Drug addiction and mood disorders are married to each other. I know its gotta hurt something fierce being rejected for roles, but he should take heart in the fact that clean and sober, he's much more viable for a part. I mean, who are you going to hire: a guy who gets loaded a lot and parties all night or the guy who goes home and gets some sleep, and spends his free time going over the script?

He can now channel that addictive personality for work, like me, lol
(-; Hey, there are worse things, you know?

There's also the possibility that his visible dissatisfaction was the result of his substance abuse, not the cause -- he must have been very disappointed and unhappy with himself because of his reckless, wrong, bad behavior. He knew better on a rational level, had even sneered at other young celebs who crashed and burned. Finding himself the object of his own disapproval must have been agonizing, especially since he is so demanding of himself. Which, of course, may have helped to motivate him to finally go for rehab.

"even sneered at other young celebs who crashed and burned"

this never happened, ever. SO

"this never happened"

Technically, you are correct. Zac Efron seems to be constitutionally incapable of uttering critical remarks about anyone or anything.

However, he has said:

"There's a time for celebration and I partake, sure. But it's important not to let that become too big of a distraction. It's out of style anyway. I think the rebellious thing to do would be to actually be successful. I've noticed that people who have longevity and are making the cool movies, they tend not to be the ones who are famous for their personal lives.”

The clear implication here is that he doesn't have high regard for those who choose clubs and wild antics over professional achievement.

If this is true, then it's good. We all need to eat some humble pie now and then. Some of eat more than others...

Sigh. I miss my husband. (-:

So... can we take a poll of who all is going to see Parkland this weekend?
Troll St. Trollglamour_addict on October 2nd, 2013 10:30 pm (UTC)
seeing it monday.
kleth on October 3rd, 2013 06:33 pm (UTC)
I already voted - I'm seeing it tomorrow at a theater near me. But I'm not very excited about it. This is a pretty ordinary story, no chases, no shoot-outs, no sex with patients on gurneys (they should have let me work on this script, heh heh).
lilly4848lilly4848 on October 7th, 2013 06:54 am (UTC)
The closest it is playing to me is 94 miles away. I would consider driving that far if there was an early morning show, but there isn't and I have to be back in time to collect my daughter from school. :(

Parkland
OK, first report. Parkland is well done with an excellent cast. It is also an odd movie because it has no "plot". It's really a docudrama, re-enacting a series of incidents. There's no story arc, no character development or transformations. It's tightly paced, for the most part, but sags a bit toward the end, because there actually is no end, just the last incident. They had to fall back on an audio wrap-up by Walter Cronkite and pull the lens out of focus to wrap it up.

Zac is just fine but, because there's no story, he's just there, doing surgical-resident stuff. I wonder why they cast him in this role, which doesn't exploit his particular charms. Any actor of appropriate age could have played this part.

Re: Parkland
Yeah. He could've at least been shirtless while working on the president. With a life saber.

Re: Parkland
I should have noted, there are many very close shots of Zac's stubbly cheeks, pouty lips, and come-hither lashes. If you like that sort of thing.

Pouty lips and come-hither lashes, lol. Sign me up!
