In Peru
I wouldn't normally post this since it was a private trip, but it sort of ceased to be private long ago.

An article from larepublica.pe:
After visiting the Inca capital for about a week, Zac Efron left today Cusco bound for Lima to take a flight that will take him back to the United States. The actor was very kind to all the people who surrounded him at the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport before boarding the plane. Zac Efron wore a blue shirt and a wool hat of different colors, sunglasses and was carrying a backpack upon arrival at the air terminal. During his stay, the former star of High School Musical did various activities, including touring Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. He also enjoyed the foods of the region, according to some villagers.

I apologize if I didn't source all the pics. Since I wasn't going to post them, I didn't save sources for some of them.

this is just a general question and thought and maybe this is just me, but it seems so many people, haters or whoever have been waiting for a story like this on zac to come out and once it finally happen people seem to find it funny that he's struggling with addiction and etc? its like uh not all zac fans are dumb and young, some are smart and older. yet the comments ive seen are half and half, so how can people be so rude on this subject its like they wanted zac to crash and burn..

cause he's good looking... and a disney star... and "entitled" and "gay" TBH... they'll go after anyone, it is not unique to zac. trust.

I recently heard zacquisha which i havent heard in 6 years... it shocked me that these people have no lives and have not moved on from this shit...

I'm glad that he seems to be in a better place and got to do something he really wanted to do. Also, he looks REALLY good and healthy and happy.

Hopefully he doesn't get hounded by people when he comes back home.

Haha. Two responses:

"I'm glad that he seems to be in a better place and got to do something he really wanted to do."

This "better place" is Peru, native land of the coca plant, an odd choice for a vacation considering the current news. Someone has a sense of humor.

"Hopefully he doesn't get hounded by people when he comes back home."

I was thinking that maybe in Peru, he might pass for just another tourist, but the photos show he's still pulling the fans even there. I wonder whether he could pass unnoticed in Papua New Guinea.

My hope is that he charters a plane to San Luis and eventually drives home.

OR is like, fuck off, I'm walking thru LAX with my head held high mother fuckers.

haha sorry.

Normally I would roll my eyes at the hat but here it's just cute and fitting. He looks good and seemingly happy.

And it's soooo cool that instead of talking about Machu Picchu he actually did it.

I love the tasseled hat. And it's not gay at all.

hehe i hope his dad took most of these pics. i think that's cute.

What amazes me is he thought he could hide in that hat. In truth, that hat probably drew everyone's attention, even old people's, lol.

I'm glad his father is with him.

He looks very happy here, and his happiness is my happiness,i.e. when I catch pictures of him smiling I catch myself smiling too.

Back to grading 150 student papers...

On Wednesday evening, ET and TMZ handled "the story" rather gently, I thought. ET was even complimentary, showing some footage from the Neighbors set and reporting how nice Zac was and how he came in early for their interview.

The basic problem up to now is the complete lack of solid information. These two entertainment programs had to report the story because it's out there, but they clearly couldn't find a single fact that they could verify. A secondary problem, for the media, is perhaps that they can't quite believe what they are reporting - straight-arrow Zac Efron involved in cocaine-induced hotel room rampages with $50K in damages? Really?

Last night, ET had a follow-up. But it contained nothing. They did an interview with Ashley Tisdale, who said zero ("I've been working a lot lately and I haven't kept up with what's happening"). They also had a denial of the rehab story from a "close source," again unnamed. I don't think TMZ mentioned the story.

This all seems pretty weird.

>but they clearly couldn't find a single fact that they could verify.

Here's my take fwiw: Zac's people knew the story was going to come out, so they pre-empted it via a release from an "unnamed source". It's plausible deniability. Then the tool boxes who were dissed by Zac came out and added as many horrible details as they could to scoop fire on his head. It's that second part I doubt.

It's clear Zac has undergone some major transformation - his body and face are radically different from the way they looked a year ago, and it's 100% positive. I think he went through rehab at some point, but this whole thing about going to two rehabs, being a crack-head control freak I'm taking with a grain of salt.

And it did hit me that Peru had coco plants, but I think his dad loves exotic locations and Zac has this passion as well.

What we don't know
OK, I clipped a clothespin over my nose and went surfing for "efron rehab" stories to try to discover some actual journalism on this topic. I was pretty disappointed.

We don't know what the hell he was rehabbed for. Excessive drinking? That's what the initial People story implied. Cocaine? That was TMZ's angle. (I could see one leading to the other, when good sense is suppressed by excessive drinking).

We don't know what kind of "rehab" is involved. Several sites mention "outpatient care" or even "intensive outpatient care." Can any kind of outpatient treatment be called "intensive"? I can see how supportive conversation can help keep a patient sober, but is that how you break with cocaine?

Perez Hilton and other sites mentioned "problems with his parents, career, girl issues, and a bad group of friends." Since these "problems" cover the whole spectrum of life's annoyances, there's no inside information here. We've all had problems in these areas. Most of us have not fled into booze or drugs to escape.

I don't buy the "controlling parents" angle. Even if they wanted to run his life, what leverage do they have?

The career question is more interesting. Some might find it astonishing that Zac Efron could be professionally unhappy as a working movie star, but I can see it. He's made 17 movies in 11 years, while about 2,000 other actors his age are climbing over each other for parts in commercials. But he's competitive and ambitious. He's worked with some good people, but he hasn't found his break-out role yet. His most successful films are the light comedies, not the dramas. He could be disappointed that he's not getting cast as the leading man in more studio projects that get wide distribution. But is this a reason to turn to booze or drugs for consolation? I'm dubious.

Several stories noted that his people had replied "no comment" or had not returned calls asking for comment, so Team Zac isn't pushing their own version of the story - they're letting the craziness blossom. But also note, they have not denied anything.

So, in summary, we know zilch.

Re: What we don't know
thats what ive wondered like what's the difference between people us weekly and tmz? and i know other sites like radar online, hollywoodlife and etc just seem to make up anything, but it amazes me how all these 'sources' just come out of nowhere and give out deets its like um why would people who worked on neighbors movie five months ago go to tmz and be like oh yea he this and this on set?

Not about "the story", but I have to share my joy and wonder:

Parkland is playing at the cineplex nearest me, opening October 4.
