Parkland gets a release date
Via Deadline:
Exclusive Media’s distribution arm Exclusive Releasing will officially release Parkland, the film that recounts the events at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital on the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The fledgling output arm has set a September 20 release date which comes after the pic has its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in competition and soon after at its North American premiere at Toronto.

eta full press release, from thefilmstage.com:
Los Angeles, CA (July 26, 2013) – Starring Zac Efron (THE PAPERBOY), Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden (MYSTIC RIVER), Academy Award winner Billy Bob Thornton (SLING BLADE), Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver (SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK) and Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti (THE IDES OF MARCH), Parkland has been given a September 20, 2013 U.S. theatrical release date through Exclusive Media’s distribution label, Exclusive Releasing.

Produced by Playtone Partners’ Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, Bill Paxton and Exclusive Media’s Nigel Sinclair and Matt Jackson, Parkland is based on the book Four Days In November, by renowned author and former prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi. The adapted screenplay is written by award-winning journalist and novelist Peter Landesman, who is making his directorial debut. The American Film Company also produces and co-finances the film with Exclusive Media.

Parkland, the ferocious, heart-stopping and powerful story never told of the real people behind the scenes of one of the most scrutinized events in history, the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, will have its World Premiere at the Venice Film Festival where it will screen in competition and its North American Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival as a Gala Presentation.

“An exceptional cast came together to make Parkland. A thought provoking film about real people in an extraordinary situation,"said producer Gary Goetzman.

Head of Exclusive Releasing, Matt Brodlie said: “Parkland tells the definitive account of the untold events that took place on that infamous day 50 years ago when JFK was assassinated – it’s a unique and compelling story about the characters at the heart of the inexplicable drama that unfolded before their eyes. It’s a rare, intelligent, quality film that sets its self apart from other thrillers.”

Additional cast members include James Badge Dale (SHAME), Academy Award® nominee Jackie Earle Haley (LINCOLN), Colin Hanks (THE GUILT TRIP), David Harbour (END OF WATCH), Golden Globe nominee Ron Livingston (OFFICE SPACE), Jeremy Strong (ZERO DARK THIRTY) and Tom Welling (DRAFT DAY).

Recounting the chaotic events that occurred in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, Parkland weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas’ chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most watched and examined film in history; the FBI agents who nearly had the gunman within their grasp; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK’s security team, witnesses to both the president’s death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson’s rise to power over a nation whose innocence was forever altered.

Exclusive Media’s partially owned Millennium Entertainment will handle all of the US ancillary distribution rights to the film.

US distribution company Exclusive Releasing is an Exclusive Media company launched in 2012 by Co-Chairmen Nigel Sinclair and Guy East to theatrically distribute between three and four releases per year.

Parkland will be Exclusive Releasing’s second theatrical release following the September 6th debut of Adore starring Naomi Watts and Robin Wright.

That is earlier than I was expecting (esp since we have zero promo material yet) but it might not be a bad idea to leverage all the festival buzz.

We should be seeing a trailer really soon now.

It doesn't specify but this clearly sounds like a platform release, ie opening in 1 or a handful of theaters on the 20th and then expanding. How wide? I have no idea. We'll have to wait and see as usual.

Yay! Release dates are good. I hope it's a nationwide release, even a release like Fruitvale Station would be perfect

Interesting, that the news release names Zac first and lists his credit as The Paperboy. This story clearly doesn't have a "star", but they mention Zac at the head of the pack. They can't be trolling for the teen audience, so this is a Good Sign. He's being treated just like a grown-up.

I've noticed that with almost all of the press articles talking about this movie Zac is listed as either the first or second. I'm a little confused, are they going by the most "popular" and "known" to the public? The rest of the cast is AMAZING but are they as known to the general public as Zac? I don't know much about the rest of the cast so....

PLEASE be a WIDE release. I don't even care if it starts small, as long as it grows to lots and lots of theaters. I'm so tired of not getting to see movies with him in them. Started with MAOW, which eventually came to the local independent art theater, as did The Paperboy. But I had to buy Liberal Arts from On Demand. And I still haven't seen At Any Price. So, I say again, PLEASE, PLEASE have a wide release.
